Carrie's POV
I woke up to my phone ringing. I ignored the call without even moving my body from bed. It started to ring for the second time, now knowing I had to answer it. I didn't bother to check the caller ID. I didn't care who I was speaking to, but I knew whoever it was, I was tired and it couldn't be important at 3:45 in the morning.
Carrie: It's almost 4 in the morning, what?
Mike: Baby...I am so sorry. I didn't realize what time it was there.
Mike was in Canada for a hockey game. He's been on the road for 2 and 1/2 weeks without being home or seeing his wife.
Carrie: Oh, hey. Sorry, I'm just so tired. It's been a rough night.
Mike: I was calling to check in on you. Still not feeling well?
Carrie: No, not at all.
Mike: Well I will be home tomorrow, okay? I'll take you to your doctors appointment. I love you.
Carrie: Wake me if I'm asleep when you still get here. I love you too, goodnight.
With that, I hung up my phone and placed it back on my nightstand. I sighed, feeling the raging headache pounding in my head. I tried to close my eyes and go back to sleep, but it was useless.
I got up from bed and decided to go grab a water from the fridge in the kitchen but all of the sudden I felt the urge to get sick. I ran straight into the bathroom and let it all out of my stomach. Just walking, I felt dizzy from this pain in my head.
Once I was stable enough to stand back up, I went downstairs into the kitchen.
"Charlotte, you scared me half to death!" I took a deep breath. "What are you doing up?"
"I'm trying to finish this stupid essay. I have such writers block and this is so pointless and dumb." Charlotte pouted.
"What's it in?" I asked, taking a sip of water.
"Hamlet. I mean, this book is so stupid and I don't understand who would write this!" She rolled her eyes.
I forced a smile, "William Shakespeare would I believe."
"Seriously, not funny. This is due tomorrow and I have two more pages to write!" Charlotte stated as she laid her head in her hands.
"Hey, now. This is your senior year. You're almost done! It'll be over before you know it and you will wish you were doing homework instead of being an adult." I kissed her head.
"What's so hard about being an adult, we're rich. I'm almost 18 now. " She huffed.
"No. You mean, your dad and I worked hard To get where we are right now. We get paid a lot of money, but we worked for it. Now, you will work someday in this world. We will not hand you everything, ya hear? Now work on your essay. This should have been done a couple days ago. You've have 2 weeks." I stated sternly, now frustrated with my daughter.
"Okay, okay. I'm trying here." Hannah told me. "But why are you awake?"
"Your dad called me forgetting the time zone difference and now I can't sleep, I have a migraine." I said, leaning across the kitchen island to face her.
"Again? Mom, this has been everyday. Have you gotten sick again?" She worried.
"Yeah, but only because I am dizzy. I have a doctors appointment tomorrow, chill out." I giggled. "I'm sure a simple medication can help me."
"Well maybe I should stay home from school tomorrow? It'll give me more time to finish this up with an ACTUAL good nights sleep and I can drive you. You shouldn't be driving." Charlotte offered and begged.
"No, your dads taking me. Sorry, sweetie, but you're going to school. You need to learn to manage your time better. This is a lesson learned. I'm going to head to bed. I love you." I said as I laughed and walked away.
I began walking up the stairs to go to my bedroom and all of the sudden I felt extremely dizzy. I tried to grab the railing to keep my body up but it was too late. My hand slipped off of the railing and I tumbled down the stairs.
"Mom?!" Charlotte shouted, now running towards me.
"Ouch." I whispered, grabbing my wrist, blurry vision.
"What happened? Are you alright?" Charlotte worried, breathing heavily.
"I couldn't carry my body weight. I tried grabbing the railing to save my fall but I was too dizzy. I hurt my wrist I think." I squeezed my eyes shut and bit my lip in pain.
"Okay, hold on. I'm gonna grab your keys, I'll drive you to the hospital." Charlotte rushed.
Two hours later...
Carrie: Mike, I'm fine. It's just a broken wrist. They've got it in a cast.
Mike: Carrie, they're talking surgery! This is a big deal. I'm coming home now. I will meet you there, okay? I love you.
Carrie: Okay, Okay. I love you too, Mike.
