"I'm sorry sir, I've never heard of Chase Daniels." our waitress shrugged."But I do know the specials for today, would you like hear them?" her bright green eyes lit up when I accepted her offer. "Your the first to accept my offer all morning! So for soups we have-" I tuned the waitress out and pretended to look at the menu. I ran the plan over and over in my head telling myself it would work. "So what would you like?"

"I will have the flapjacks with a side of fruit salad please." Heather ordered.

"And you?" the waitress said gestering to me.

Apparently Heather saw my struggle because she suddenly said "He'll have the same." The spunky waitress bounced away with her big bodacious curls.

"Uh, thanks Heather I was a little caught in my thoughts."

"Its good I understand." she shrugged. "So what is it like being a horse?"

It was obvious she was trying to distract me. "A little tough at first when I was sold to Jackie but i got used to her yelling, blame, intense work, and strict schedule."

"Really? Does she not have any compassion for your mental well being?"

I gave her a quizical look. "I've been a horse my whole life, smaller words are good."

"Sorry. How many owners have you had?"

"I was born in Lancaster, and I sprained my leg and my owners thought I was useless, so they took me to a vet to get me put down but a little girl fell in love with me and her dad bought me for her. about a year later that little girl's dad died and she shut me out, I was'nt ridden for a few months and her mom assumed she was never going to ride me again so she sold me to Jackie and I ended up at Freebell acres."

"Wow I never knew your history it was always a mystery to everyone, even Jackie."

Heather and I just sat there in silence for a while.

"Excuse me, I found someone who might be able to help you." The livley waitress was standing next to our table with a woman who looked in her mid fourties. "This is Annabelle Roland she says she knows who Chase Daniels is." The waitress slowly backed away as if she was waiting for someone to say something to her.

The woman sat down on Heather's side of the booth and smiled at us with her toothy grin that resembled the cheshire cat from Alice in Wonderland I assume from what Heather has told me about that movie when it came up on the bus.

"So you kids are looking for Chase Daniels?" she questioned with her hazel eyes travelling between Heather and I.

"Uh yeah. He is our friend's dad and we were coming for a surprise to her but we didn't realize we don't know where her dad lives until we were here." Heather quickly lied.

"Oh I think I'll be able to help you with that but first I will have to know your names."

"I'm Heather and that is Rookie." Heather said.

"Hmm...Rookie is an odd name."

"It's what my friends call me." I quickly said.

"OK so here is Chase's adress. Tell him I sent you." Annabelle quickly scribbled some numbers on a napkin and began to scoot out of the booth.

"Wait!" Heather stopped her. "Are you going to eat with us at least?"

"No I could'nt possibly. I must be going." Annabelle slid out of the booth and practically sprinted out the door in her faux fur coat before Heather could say anything else.
