After my little stunt, she went to her apartment and I went to the hotel to pack up. We had one last night in London. The ringtone rang out during dinner. It was "Paradise" by Coldplay. That was Alex's favorite song. I went outside and picked up.
"So how'd you do it?" she asked before I could say hello.
"Well hello to you too," I said with a laugh.
"I'm serious," she said trying to keep an even tone but failing miserably.
"Magicians never reveal their secrets," I threw back.
"Seriously?" she asked. This time she managed to level out her voice.
"Fine, fine. I'll tell you. Right before you woke up in the hospital, I was talking to you about my call-up. I was going to ask you if you wanted to travel the world with me the night of the wreck. I was hoping you would remember me when you woke up, but when you didn't, I sort of gave up on that promise. But when you recognized me the other day, I knew I had to make it happen today. So I called your mom and asked for her permission. She said yes. Then, I asked her some stuff like what size clothes you wear so I would know what to put in the suitcase. I grabbed the ticket from the team transportation guy. I asked my teammates to help me after I told them our story. Some of them even cried. It was pretty funny. After that, I just had to wait and hope you would show up." I explained.
"You're amazing," she said shortly.
"Thanks. I tried really hard," I said, almost blushing.
"Speaking of the game, I saw that heart. What were you thinking? Are you crazy?" she exclaimed loudly.
"Maybe a little. Don't worry. If anyone says anything, I'll explain everything, ok?" I tried saying.
"Fine but I still think you're crazy," she said in a monotone voice.
"I got to go. we can talk more later, alright?" I asked.
"Ok. Bye. You're amazing. I mean it," she said in one last burst of words.
"You're pretty amazing yourself." I said with a smile.
I hung up and went back to the dining area. Everyone kept eating. After I finished the amazing fish and chips we were served along with a salad and three bottles of blue Gatorade, I went to my room. I talked with Makenna, one of my teammates and a long time friend from high school, for a little while before I went to bed. It was only 9 o'clock.
