I left Jason's office and walked up to his secretary.  She looked very small behind her desk. Her eyes were so focused on her computer screen, I was guessing she didn't notice me walking up to her due to the fact that she hadn't acknowledged me yet.

"Um, excuse me?"

She looked up startled,

"Oh, I'm so sorry. Was there something you needed?"

I liked how there was kindness in her voice, no judgment, just sincerity.

"Yeah, I was wondering where Mr.Ruiz' office was, not Jason, but his father?"

"Oh, it's actually right there to your left." She said as she turned her head to the office right across Jason's.

"Thanks." I replied as I started walking towards the door

"Wait! You can't see him without an appoint-"

I heard her trying to catch up to me, but I walked inside anyway. Mr. Ruiz was sitting at his desk, in the middle of a call. He paused when he saw me walk in unannounced.

"I'm sorry Mr.Harrison, but I'm going to have to call you back...mhhmm, yes I will let him know, okay goodbye." after he hung up the phone, he looked up at both me and the secretary.

"I'm so sorry Mr.Ruiz, I tried explaining that she needs an appointment in order to meet with you but she wouldn't listen."

He raised his hand up, "No, no it's perfectly fine." He replied, "I had a feeling she would want to speak with me sooner or later. You can leave us now."

The secretary left and closed the door behind her. As I looked around, his office looked a lot similar to Jason's, but with a more serious feel to it. I had my mind set on telling him off and making him realize how fucked up this situation was but seeing him face to face, by myself, behind that desk, authority just oozing out of him. Well it made me feel intimidated and small compared to him, a feeling I'm not used to, but it was there nonetheless.

"So you came in here to speak of the marriage between you and my son, I'm assuming?" He asked, breaking the awkward silence.

"Umm y-yes." I responded, feeling like an utter idiot for stuttering

Get your thoughts together Rexy, focus

"You see Mr.Ruiz, I just feel that this whole marriage is-"

"So I hear you're into music, Rexy?

"Well umm yes, I'm in a band actually, but you see about Jason-"

"Did you know your mother was a musician as well?"

"I...no, I didn't know that actually. What did she play?" I felt like all my thoughts disappeared and got replaced with questions about my mother. Questions that I'm guessing in some way made me feel like I'd be able to get closer to her in some sense.

"The piano. She was an amazing player, admired by many in the college we attended."

"I never knew that. I guess my father forgot to mention that to me." I said feeling confused and sad that I never knew about this before.

"Well back in the day, she was asked to perform at various symphonies. It was at one of those concerts, that I introduced your parents to each other. Your father was never as they say 'a ladies man', but I guess there was just something about him that made your mother so enamored with him, so quickly."
