I know I'm updating fast. But I've had this story idea for so long. Hope you guys like it. ♥️
Jason's POV
I had a feeling that Keira was hiding something from me. Not in a bad way, I mean, but in a way that made me curious enough to know what it was. It started when I called her up and asked her if she was ready to discuss what we were going to do with our relationship. Keira merely stated that she needed to go to work and we could talk about it later. She kept putting our conversation off until I had to pack up and leave for Hartford, Connecticut once again.
"I'm going to miss you," Keira muttered as she stopped her car at the airport. She turned to look at me, a sad smile etched on her face. "Promise to call me or email me as soon as you arrive safely?"
"Of course I do." I reached over to stroke her cheek. "And maybe then we could talk about our relationship? You've been avoiding the subject for the past couple of weeks."
Keira smiled slyly. "With good reason," she promised. "I'll explain everything later, I promise. But... Not now. You'll know soon enough."
I sighed, deciding to play along and allow her to bring up the subject rather than me. "Alright," I agreed. "Just let me know when you want to talk about it."
"I will."
My flight home was uneventful except for an hour delay in New York. Mr. Field loved the articles I had submitted while I was in London much to my relief. I was informed that our newspaper's readers also enjoyed them despite the fact that I was their sports journalist and they couldn't attend the events themselves. My co-worker (who broke his leg) was on the mend and took back his job from me as soon as I arrived at the office. I was more than happy to let him as there was a baseball game coming up that I was assigned to write about.
Naturally I brought Caleb with me as the game was on his day off. "You don't realize how glad I am to be sitting here eating a hot dog and nachos instead of forcing myself to pay attention to yet another piano concert," I muttered, taking a sip of my soda.
Caleb laughed and took a bite out of the pretzel he was eating. "Keira would kill you if she heard that," he said with a smirk. "Then she would drag your dead body to the next concert of her latest favorite pianist."
I shook my head. "I love your sister dearly, but I don't want to see any concert or ballet for a long, long time. I was dying to see a good game and write about it."
"I hear you, dude." Caleb let out a cheer as a player of the team we were currently cheering for made a home run. "I know you love to write and all, Jace, but I'm so glad I'm a nutritionist. I'd rather work with food than at a job where I might get stuck with performing arts duty."
I rolled my eyes and turned my attention on the game for several minutes before I decided to speak up again. "Did you know Keira won't let us talk about how we're going to continue in our relationship?"
Caleb frowned slightly. "Yeah, I heard about that. I think Keira called Mom when I was over at my parents' for a visit last week, but Mom wouldn't tell me anything and told me to let you guys tell me. What's going on anyway?"
"I really don't know. I mean, she agreed to talk about it with me, but then she keeps putting it off. I emailed her yesterday."
"Well?"
"No answer yet."
Caleb sighed. "Well, you know Keira," he said with a shrug. "When she's up to something, she's too stubborn to reveal anything until she's ready."
"I guess you're right." I sighed and focused on the game again. I groaned suddenly. "That was a horrible pitch! Who let him on the team?!"
Caleb laughed and punched my arm. "Welcome back to baseball, dude."
