They moved to the dining table shortly after that and continued discussing the changes Xavier would or wouldn't make if his pack came here. They learned that the plan for their packhouse was to renovate the old village on the other side of the mountains from Cas' own home.
"Thank you for dinner, it was excellent." Julie smiled as Xavier help her with her jacket.
"There wasn't any blood, don't you need blood?" Jonah questioned Cal with a tilted head.
"Only a small amount around every three months, but it depends on the vampire and the way they were raised really, there are some vampires that live on blood every day, but substitutes do exist." Cal explained.
"Why does it change?"
"I can explain it more in detail if you have time later." He offered.
"Jonah." Xavier scolded with a knowing look, "Callum will be here tomorrow but we must go, your parents are waiting for you."
"I'll escort you back." Cas said begrudgingly, after Victoria and Danny guilted him into it.
"I'm sure we can manage-"
"There are hunters that take to the mountain at night, they're already there. Unless your walking as humans, its best to go through the caves." Cas argued, after getting looks from Cal's parents, "I'll be back in a bit."
"Are you sure?" Cal asked following them out the door. Everyone other than Xavier shifted, not sure how he felt about Caspian leading them.
"Yes." Cas hissed before walking towards Xavier.
"You'll die painfully if this is a set up." The alpha growled, he couldn't trust someone who couldn't trust him especially with all the rumors.
Cas ignored him, "We'll be going through the crystal caves, remember to be quiet, they echo. The hunters cannot learn of these caves."
They changed into their wolves. Cas didn't miss the startled looks from Xavier and Julie as they laid eyes on his wolf. Iced was a white wolf with a silver paw and ear and swirls across his body. It seemed unnatural, especially when you're from a dark wolf pack. White wolves are rarely seen, only being 3% of the population, but the silver swirls through everyone off.
He brushed past Lucas' brown wolf, leading the way through the trees to the edge of the mountain. He nudged the brush of leaves and bushes blocking the cave entrance he slowed in order to not draw the attention of a hunter who stood about 20 meters away, setting up a trap. Cas slowed to a calm walk making sure to keep an easy pace.
The crystal walls shinned as they wandered passed and Cas noticed the presence coming up to his side just like the one, he's noticed all night. A brown wolf with forest green eyes that was a little smaller than him, indeed came up to his side and nudged him. Cas narrowed his eyes as Lucas nudged his side again.
They came up on the drop and Cas paused at the edge, looking back to make sure everyone was still present, including the small shadow he had gotten used to seeing follow them ever since they left the house. He shook his head towards the hole, jumping down to the branch before looking up to see if Lucas was watching. As soon as he knew they would follow he jumped to the next continuing his descent. Every once in a while, he'd look up to see how they were faring.
Cas checked the forking paths once he landed, having to check the pattern in case the Crystals shifted last night. That was one of the dangerous things about these caves, the crystals could shift at any moment. He'd spent years wandering through these caves, learning their new routes and a couple of times he'd gotten caught in the shift and was stuck for days.
