Lucas just got out of class with the other two boys. They were on their way to the Cafeteria when his jacket got snagged by a side exit. He was pulled out of the building before he knew what was going on. He caught his mate's scent and craned his head to see Cas. He was the one to grab his jacket.
Cas said nothing as he switched to Lucas' hand instead of jacket and pulled him along. He pulled out his phone and texted Cal what was going on and a quick sorry.
"Hey, what's going on?" Lucas asked to no avail, "My father won't be happy that I'm missing school."
"I don't care. And generally speaking, he's responsible for this."
Lucas tried to question him further, but Cas said nothing else. He was caught in worry, not knowing what he was doing or what he really expected out of this. They got to a midpoint between home and school when Cas finally pulled them to a stop.
"Your father visited this morning." Cas stated sternly, "He said that you called him."
Lucas dropped his head and his eyes to the ground. Having nothing to say, he remained quiet.
Cas noticed his mood change, he felt awful, but this needed to be done, "I know I wasn't at school and that I didn't call you to explain, but I can't continue to be lectured by your father. I need you to talk to me."
Lucas didn't even look up as he whispered, "But he's my father. I can't just not talk to him."
"I'm not saying you can't talk to him. I'm just asking you to tell me if something I do bothers you. To call me if I don't show up. Having your father talk to me isn't going to help us."
This conversation wasn't going according to Cas' plan, but he shouldn't expect anything. He barely knows his mate. He didn't think it'd be so hard, his mate was upset, and that was just adding to the pressure in his chest. It felt like he was suffocating. He was prepared to call Lucas a child and tell him to grow up, that daddy wasn't always going to be there- the harsh truth of life. But he didn't, he couldn't. Just the thought of being that harsh filled him with regret. He wasn't fit to be with Lucas and that hurt.
"I... I'm sorry." Lucas whimpered. Cas couldn't hold back anymore as he pulled Lucas into his chest, letting Lucas cry into his shirt.
"No. NO. It's okay. You didn't do anything wrong. We just need to get used to this." Cas continued to comfort him. He was already a making promises he wasn't really willing to keep. It pained him to know he caused this, but it was necessary. Cas pulled away enough to look over his mate.
"I like you in green." Cas smirked as Lucas tucked head father into Cas' chest and brought up his arms, so they rested against his chest and beside Lucas' head.
"Well I ... I like you in red." He tried to quip back with a muffled voice.
Cas chuckled, ducking his head to Lucas's ear, "I bet you'd like me out of the red." It just kept spilling out of his mouth.
Lucas pressed he's head harder against Cas' chest. Cas felt calmed by the closeness. He found it cute that Lucas was shy. With all the scars he was terrified to see Lucas' reaction and maybe this trait will slow down their relationship even more.
Cas pushed Lucas away when he began to get uncomfortable, being as gentle as possible, before he changed the subject.
"When are you and Jonah supposed to get your stuff to come to our house?" Cas questioned taking a few steps away.
Lucas untucked his head, his cheeks and ears remaining slightly pink, "After school so we can see everyone off. Dad wanted you two to come."
Cas pulled out his phone to check the time, "Well it's about that time. If we head back now, we should be able to catch them."
