The day Gabriela Ramirez left for college, she was beyond excited. She'd never been more excited in her life. Not even when she graduated form high school. Of course, her mom was a huge snotty mess.
"Oh, my Gabby!" She blubbered. Gabriela patted her mom's back, giving her a kiss on the cheek.
"It'll be okay, mama. I'll come visit. I promise." Gabby turned to her father and smiled. "Bye, papa. Be safe. I love you." She gave her father a hug and then, turned finally to her sister. "Bye-bye, Mia. I'll miss you, my bubby." Her sister's nickname slipped from her mouth, forgetting how much Mia hated it. But Mia didn't seem to notice, and had tears in her eyes.
"Bye-bye, Gabby. Please visit." Gabby smiled, her eyes stinging with tears. "I promise, bubby. Not even wild horses could stop me from seeing you." With one last hug from each of them, Gabriela walked out the front door and into her chuck-full SUV.
