Be Mine

Chapter 10

Jenna, Ceci, Xander and I paced around in the lobby. I don't even know him! I thought to myself. I stared at the fish in the bright blue water across the room in their tank. They slightly calmed my nerves. I hadn't realized how long it'd been until I saw one of the dark blue fish float upside down to the top of the tank. I looked away quickly and stared up at the clock, trying to make sense of what the clock read. 10: 32 pm. We'd been in the waiting room for seven hours. The pale blue double doors to the left of us swung open and a young nurse beckoned for us. We all launched ourselves in her direction, Xander nearly tripping over his feet. The nurse began walking and stopped at a door that seemed forever ahead. She rested her hand on the door handle and paused there.

"I don't know how he survived, let alone escaping only with shrapnel and debris in his chest and abdomen, but he did, and he's doing quite well. Right now he's sleeping so I'm going to ask you to be quiet, and when he wakes up, he may not remember you. He, unfortunately, is suffering from memory loss. I'm sorry. I'll give you all space."

Memory loss. OMFG. Memory loss. I don't even know this guy and I'm crying. This poor guy. He won't remember anything from his youth, or school years, or-

"Gabby, shush, he's waking up." Ceci walked over to his bedside and held one of his hands as he turned over onto his back. Shane's eyes fluttered open. He looked around, confused. His eyes darted to Ceci who was smiling at him. "Shane, it's me. It's Ceci. I'm ex-girlfriend. We're best friends." Shane looked confused.

"Who are they?" He asked, jerking his head in our direction. Ceci turned around and smiled. 

"The blonde boy is Xander, the blonde girl is Jenna, and the brunette is Gabriela. We all call her Gabby." Ceci explained. Shane stared at me until it made me uncomfortable. But then he spoke up.

"I don't know how, but I know you," He said, shocking us all. "You saved me."
