Chapter 2: Romeo and Juliet

“Right do we really all have different classes?”-I asked my friends.

“Yeah I guess. I have History first, Leslie has Geography, Amy has Literature and you have English.”-Ricci answered.

“Then I’ll see you at the lockers on break.”-I said and after giving each one of them a hug walked into the direction of the English classroom.

“Yo Roxie, wait up.”-a male voice said and I felt somebody pull my arm.

I turned around just to see the same gorgeous face that I saw about 20 minutes ago.

“Hey Dan, wassup?”-I asked

“Trying to figure out where to go.”-he said.

“OH! Which class do you have?”-I asked him willing to help.

“English. Can you help me find it please?”-he asked with puppy eyes.

“Oh wow. I would have shown you anyways because that’s my class too. You didn’t have to beg.”-I answered while half laughing.

“Oh great. Someone I know, it’s not going to be that boring.”-he said smiling at me.

Oh my god! His smile. Why did butterflies start up in my stomach at this?

We walked to our classroom talking about random stuff.

When we reached there I turned to Dan.

“OK, here’s the deal. Now the teacher will come and give us our places. Usually she does it alphabetically.”-I informed Dan.

“Right I’m Lawrence so I guess I’ll be somewhere in the middle.”-he said.

“Shame, I’m Tanner.”-I answered back.

“Hello ladies and gentlemen.”-I heard a familiar female voice from the door.

“Hello Mrs. Burner.”-everyone chorused except Dan and 3 more people. I guessed they were new to.

“Right, let’s get down to business.”-she said.-“I’ve decided that this year you will be seated differently than the previous years.”-she said and I got a bit excited. It’s not fun to sit next to the same people all the time.

So in the end we ended up sitting one row boys one row girls and so on.

I was pretty lucky because I didn’t have to sit next to any of my wannabes. Being the most popular girl at scool has it's minuses.

I guess I actually liked where I sat. Behind me was Simmy, in front of me was Jules (she is one of the girls in our gang), to my right was Tyler (I knew him from the drama club), and to my left out of all the people was Dan! I was so happy and yet I felt so weird.

“And this semester’s topic is Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.”-Mrs. Burner informed us.

“Jesus not again!”-I mumbled to myself. Jules, Simmy and Ty laughed at that, they knew why I was so sad.

“What’s wrong?”-Dan asked me with confusion.

“We do Shakespeare every year. Last year we did Macbeth and the year before we did Hamlet.”-I answered.

“Don’t forget to mention the main reason Roxie.”-Ty laughed next to me.

“What’s the main reason?”-Dan asked curious.

“Me and Ty are in the drama club, and every year we have a certain play. So the last few years we had to do the same stuff as we did in English.”-I answered.

“Except last year.”-Simmy laughed.

Dan looked at me confused.

“Yeah, last year we did Romeo and Juliet.”-I said shaking at the memory.

“I don’t see what’s so bad about that.”-Dan said.

“You see, Roxie had to play Juliet and she had the most words.”-Jules said turning around.

“And she didn’t enjoy Mr. Harrison, our drama teacher; shout at her for not saying ‘thou’ right.”-Simmy added.

“Yeah, Romeo, Romeo where for art thou Romeo?”-I mimicked pronouncing everything right. And all five of us burst out laughing.

“Roxie and company will you please pay attention.”-Mrs. Burner said.

“But, there’s nothing to pay attention to, I know the play by heart Mrs. Burner.”-I told her innocently.

“Then can you please repeat Juliet’s most known line?”-she asked trying to catch me.

“Sure why not.”-I said and got up.-“Romeo, Romeo, where for art thou Romeo? Deny thy father and refuse thy name.”-I said just like Mr. Harrison made me say it last year.

“Bravo!”-Dan, Simmy, Ty and Jules said and started clapping while everyone joined in.

And that’s the beauty of being the most popular girl in school: most of the people are always on your side.

“Okay, everyone calm down. Roxie sit, that was good.”-she said a bit annoyed that she didn’t catch me.

*****

“That was awesome Roxie!”-some girls told me as I was walking out of the door with Simmy and Jules.

“Huh, thanks.”-I said briefly and smiled at them.

A few moments later the five of us as in me, Simmy, Jules, Dan and Ty were walking down the hallway.

Suddenly everyone started clapping. These people are so weird, I didn’t even do anything. But the word got out pretty quick.

“Is it always like that?”-Dan whispered in my ear. I just nodded in reply.

“Wow, how do you survive girl?”-he said amused. And I just shrugged my shoulders.
