It had been about a month after college started when Jess felt that she'd finally found her place. Her roommate, Mia Jensen, was as sweet as can be. Mia stood about 5 foot 5 inches with a tiny frame. Her short, dark hair complimented her lightly tanned skin and crystal blue eyes. Jess came to learn that Mia was working her way to be accepted into the psychiatric medical doctoral program. While at Clemson, she majored in psychology and studied biology, chemistry, and organic chemistry as well. The two of them got along extremely well considering their differences in regards to what they wanted to pursue in life.
Jess explained that she was majoring in English Lit and minoring in education since she wanted to become a highschool English teacher back at home.
As for Bryant, he was getting along just fine back home with his job in their home of Richmond. Bryant was the top CPA at his father's company, Oakley Accounting Co. Because of his charming and very appealing personality, he was often a favorite of those who worked closely with him. Many believed that life as an accountant could not be fun, but his work is what brought him true joy. He had high hopes of inherenting the company once his father grew too old to handle it on his own.
Jess was sitting in her English lecture, becoming bored out of her mind while the professor was talking about exam days for the end of the semester when she realized she hadn't talked to Bryant once since she got there. Tapping her flimsy mechanical pencil against the hard surface of her armrest, she pondered what to say to him. Should I apologize for taking so long to get in touch? Or do I act natural?, she thought to herself. The lecture soon came to an end and Jess found herself striding down the long hallway that led to her dorm.
She pulled her key out of her bag and slipped it in the door. Her dorm was considerably nice; it had just enough space for her and Mia. The two of them mutually agreed to keep their half of the room clean, so messiness was never an issue. Jess slipped out of her shoes at the front door and set her bag down in the desk chair; making her way over to the loveseat. She tugged her phone out of her pants pocket and opened up to her messages. It was a little after noon so she hoped he'd be on lunch break.
To: B
Hey, can I call you?Bryant looked down at his phone after taking a bite of his leftovers from the previous night. He picked up the phone from his crystal clear, glass desk with a hint of a grin on his face as he replied.
To: Jess
Thought you'd forgotten about me. Go for it.Hesitantly, Jess tapped on his contact and clicked 'call.' By the time it got to the second ring, Jess grinned, knowing he was just pulling her leg. He picked up just as the third ring started to sound.
"Oh hey I almost didn't see your call," he subtly chuckled out. "Hm I'm sure that's true.." she joked. An awkward silence fell between them, but Jess decided to finally speak up again. "Look I'm sorry I didn't get in touch with you sooner, B. I really am."
Bryant fidgeted with the black pen that was lying on top of some papers he needed to work on as he listened to her words. Ever since the day at the airport, he'd put away the last few things he was thinking of her; telling himself it was just because he was at an emotional high. "It's fine really," he said as he adjusted himself in his chair; He continued, "So how've you been? Make any new friends?"
"A few, but my roommate is amazing. We get along really well. Oh and get this, her name is Mia," she explained.
A few memories of Bryant's sister flashed in his head. Mia lived in Seattle, so the two of them never really got to see eachother ever since she left home. "What a happy accident. Well I'm glad things are going good for you down there," he hesitated before asking his next question. "Have you talked to your mom and dad at all yet?"
