Hand to hold

It seems like just yesterday, there was sunshine and happy days.

But then you left and you walked away to a far off place.

Now I don't know where to go without your hand to hold.

You protected me from the wind and the rain so I never was exposed.

But then you left and I was alone and cold with no hand to hold.

You brought me higher and higher 'till you let me fall believing you would catch me.

Instead I landed feet first with a broken heart and an empty hand.

Looking up I felt the rain on my cheeks and the wind in my hair.

You let go and I fell for all your stupid lies.

You broke my heart when you left, shattering it.

You left me to mend my broken heart.

You just played me, but maybe if I hadn't met you my life would be different.

I wouldn't have learned to get back up.

So thank you for leaving because I didn't need you anymore.

I didn't need your hand to hold anymore.

I learned to give my hand to others who need it.

You made me laugh and cry.

So thank you for letting go of my hand and letting me grow.

Sincerely, your past lover
