Alex's escape from his life was nature. Out in nature he had no troubles, he could simply think and be to himself. He loved his chance at seeing animals, for he was captivated by them. They could be hurt. They could live unpredictable lives. He longed to be like them.

Alex had been walking in the woods for some time when he say an animal that not only surprised him, but fascinated him. It was a bird, but not a normal one he would see. It shined brightly, like a diamond, and dozens of different colors all shown bouceing off of the magnificent bird's feathers. Alex walked slowly to the tree where the strange bird was perched and admired it. After some time, the bird took off, flying deeper into the forest. Alex let out a soft 'wow' as the bird disappeared into the trees.

Later, Alex sat wondering what the bird was, and why it looked so much different than the others. He elected to return to the spot in the forest where he had already seen the bird. Sure enough, when Alex went down to the grove later the next afternoon, the bird was there. This time, however, when the bird took off into the trees, Alex followed it. It continued to fly deeper and deeper into the forest, until it suddenly dissappeared in a blurb of light. Alex suddenly realized he was alone in the forest, and dusk was approaching fast. He was about to be on his way when he spotted something very peculiar in the shadows.

It was a large, pulsating vortex of blue and green energy. Alex was mezmorized by this sight, and begin to inspect the vortex. He looked closely into the vortex and saw... himself. Alex thought the vortex was providing a mirror like image. However, when Alex reached out to touch his reflection, it fell backwards with a scream was Alex fell into the glowing particles, his vision flooding with bright green and blue light.

He blacked out as the lights began to fill his brain.
