"So, you interested in any girls?" My dad asked once we got settled

"Girls? Not really." I said

He and I both knew it was a lie. I know, I know. Last chapter I said I wasn't interested in girls at the moment so I guess I lied to you too. Sorry, not sorry. He raised an eyebrow at me, but I refused to meet his eyes.

"Really now." He said, leaning back a little

"Mhmm." I said, focusing on my ice cream

"So Hannah." He said

"Oh come on Dad! There have got to be some kind of rules for you breaking into my head like that! Respect my personal thoughts! It's not like I actively read yours or anything..."

"Yeah, because I tell you the truth." He said

I sighed, but really only because he was right.

"Is she a human girl?"

"Maybe..."

Another eyebrow raise.

"Okay fine! Yes, she is! I don't understand why you care so damn much!" I snapped

My dad and I were both really surprised by how attitude-y and teenager-y that sounded. I was never known for having that problem and I was already 17. Normally by that point you're past that stage.

"Sorry." I mumbled

After a pause he spoke again.

"You know what I think?"

"What?"

"That you should follow your heart."

That was really a shocker.

"Obviously whatever choice you make is going to have some pros and cons. Weigh them, as well as get to know her better. If she's your one, it won't matter if she's human. Don't do what I did with your mother and abandon her because of others. If she's your one, you need to be prepared to stay with her, so your kids don't have to do what you do, and you also need to be ready for even more backlash than what I get. I get a ton, and the people who don't like you will instantly hop on that bandwagon. You understand? Now I'm not trying to deter you from it, I just want you to do what's right for you, and if the social strain is too much, then sit this one out."

I tried to figure out what he really meant. Was he talking more about his image or mine? Was he being supportive like always, or were his own motives getting in the way? In the time it took me to contemplate everything I had finished my ice cream. If my dad had been in my head listening to my thinking process, he didn't say anything.

"You know what, I think I just need to be alone for a while." I said, dropping the wrapper into the garbage can beside him "See you tomorrow night."

"I love you son, don't forget that. You're my very special boy."

"Your very special mistake." I muttered under my breath.

Something that was really good about the demon world was that there were a lot of quiet places to hide when you wanted to think things over. Especially if you really liked nature. I teleported my way down the busy streets, and headed out of town. If you walked far enough down our version of the autoban, you'd find the secret pathway that not many people knew about. Down that pathway was my favorite secret hiding place, which I still hadn't given a name yet.

You had to walk really far to get to it. The path was about a 30 minute walk, and then it abruptly stopped at the edge of a thick forest. You'd walk east through the forest until you got to the giant boulder in the middle of a clearing. Then you headed north east. Finally, you'd get to a stream, cross it, and head just a little farther north, following the contour of the stream until you found the place. You'd know when you saw it.
