Pairing: Mina x fem!reader ⚢
"I'm not an idiot, I saw it coming."
Even when things seem to go your way, they might not turn out to be what you'd expect. Which seemed to be life's latest favorite narrative for you. You should've known better than to get your hopes up, especially with her.
You see, this little suspicion began to develop when you had reconnected with her. She seemed to have done a 180, which surprised you in more ways than one. It was as if her shell had been hollowed out and filled with a completely different individual.
Though, if you were honest, you weren't going to complain. She was everything and more to you and had been for the past few years now. It startled you when you began to speak to her once again, only to notice how greatly she had changed.
However, it might've been a better idea to keep your hopes lowered. Even with all the warning bells going off in your head, you let yourself become roped in once more. Part of you was enjoying the attention she gave you, part of you enjoyed the way you were able to feel comfortable around her.
Maybe, just maybe, you'd grown accustomed to her once again. Despite the warnings and knowledge of what was to come, part of you was doubtful. You were feeling dubious about the whole situation and what your perception had molded into.
Part of you was afraid, afraid that the same thing would happen if you kept your mouth shut. But you couldn't and didn't let a word leave your lips, any word you'd come up with would die on the tip of your tongue as you attempted to utter them.
Regardless of your doubts, part of you had been rendered witless and negligent towards the sign. For once, you wanted to hope. You wanted to hope that she wasn't the same as before, that you wouldn't let it become what it was before. You hoped for her. But life doesn't give you what you expect.
Life drops signs and robs you of your heart in the night, rendering even the strongest of all into blubbering messes. This time, you tell yourself, it'll be different. You'll finally let her know the way you felt about her and everything you had ever thought about her.
But you don't. You let her go once again, or rather, you never truly had her like you thought you did. Her heart belonged to another and you had never even stood a chance in obtaining her attention. You let it happen again, but a part of you knew that it was going to be like this. You knew.
You weren't an idiot, you knew full well what it'd end up being. You knew she'd run back to him and not you, never you. You weren't her first choice and you'd never be.
