Of course.

Of course she would forget her umbrella.

Of course, the one day she would forget it would be the one day Marinette would actually need it.

The midnight-haired girl shut her locker with a sigh, giving Alya a wave who was preparing to flee to her home. She stood outside the school and watched Alya's bright orange umbrella with white swirls shine uniquely through the gloom until it vanished from view. Marinette turned her attention again to the falling rain, feeling it pretty much summed up her current mood.

Tired and miserable.

Ugh.

The soft pattering behind her of something other than the persistent rain alerted her to another's presence.  The footsteps grew closer and Marinette ignored it. It could be anyone in the school and most everyone she knew had already left. Just because they were coming outside didn't mean that she knew the person.

Well, she'd been wrong before and she was certainly wrong now.

Because shining brightly in the gray misery of the world were the unmistakeable eyes of-

-Nathaniel.

Just kidding. ;)

Marinette met Adrien's eyes, which were currently glowing against the murky backdrop.

They're like emeralds.

At first, she though he was another poor, unfortunate soul stuck in the rain until she saw the black umbrella in his hand. His mouth quirked into a questioning frown at her downcast expression. "You okay?"

"Just peachy."

"What happened?"

Marinette relinquished a sigh, chest falling as she exhaled. "I forgot my umbrella. My house is just 2 blocks over, my parent's bakery is just one, but I'll be soaked if I take 2 steps into, well...this." She gestured at the continuously falling raindrops with a frustrated huff, a small glint catching her eye as Adrien's silver limo pulled up at the bottom of the steps."

"Want a ride?"

"Nah, I'll be okay."

"Then take my umbrella."

Startled, the bluenette turned towards the young model only to find him already looking at her and holding out his umbrella for her to take. Her mouth felt suddenly dry and Marinette swallowed, feeling her cheeks warm at Adrien's intense gaze.

"I can't, you'll get soaked."

"It's okay, I don't mind."

She opened her mouth to protest when she realized her lips were already slightly parted. Her tongue felt suddenly numb and she abandoned her futile attempts to speak, reaching out to grasp the umbrella handle with a resigned sigh. Marinette's finger bumped with Adrien's and she felt her heart pound before she closed her hand around the handle and his fingers moved away.

And then her vision went black.

Her finger had pressed on the button, she realized belatedly, and the stupid thing had closed on her. Pursuing her lips, she muffled a groan, cheeks coloring further as she opened the umbrella to hear Adrien's bright laughter. Despite her embarrassment, her lips twitched up slightly at the sight and she felt herself giggle quietly, soon matching Adrien's raucous laughter.
