"You people are evil."
Marinette only smiled innocently at Plagg in a way that she knew would drive him insane, while simultaneously trying to ignore her pounding heart. The latter was proving to be hard with Adrien grinning in that way of his.
Sitting on the floor in a circle with the others, Adrien to her left, Tikki to her right, and Plagg across from her, she silently willed herself to remain calm and not turn the same color as the room they were in, Tikki's light red room.
Adrien exchanged a smirk with her— one she just barely managed to return— and Plagg and Tikki's argument suddenly faded into the background.
Gods, how was she supposed to survive being her new neighbor if she couldn't get through one night in his presence?
She was doomed.
Stop it! You were getting better, you'll get over him...eventually!
Yeah, she would. Definitely. It was fine, and she could get over her crush on him even with him sitting so close and lookong so perfect and, omigod, had he always been so muscu—
Scratch that, she was beyond doomed.
"What?" Marinette snapped back at Tikki's teasing voice, aimed at her grumpy boyfriend. "It's not my fault."
"Yes, it is!" Plagg retorted. "You were the one that placed that whoopee cushion on my seat!"
"You can't prove that!" Tikki scoffed.
"I don't need to, Sugarcube, I know you well enough to know who the culprit is. You're my girlfriend for god's sake!" He suddenly turned, and Marinette internally gulped at the burning eyes now aimed at her.
"How much did Tikki here pay you to take a video of that, Mari?"
Shoot. So much for being stealthy with the phone's camera.
Although she was slightly panicking on the inside, Marinette had always been good at masking her emotions. So, keeping a cool, calm expression, she directed her unflinching gaze at the older boy and maintained a tone of fake obliviousness.
"I don't know what you're talking about."
"Yes, you do! And Gabriel saw it too, he actually thought I farted! How could you do this, Marinette, I trusted you! That's such a juvenile joke!"
"Oh, coming from you? Mr. lets call Dominoes and ask for the phone number to Pizza Hut," Adrien cut in, amusedly grinning and Marinette looked at him. Evidently, it was a mistake, because his roguish smirk was so freakin' hot and pretty and oh, she was going to have a heart atta—
"Hey, that's not juvenile!" Plagg huffed. Adrien raised an eyebrow and Plagg backtracked. "Okay, well, maybe a little."
"Or a lot."
"I'm going to be dining with demons," Plagg muttered.
"Excuse me?" Tikki asked, leaning in.
"Huh? What? I didn't say nothing!"
"Wow, you're a terrible liar."
"I'm a fantastic liar. Just...not very good at it...right now."
Marinette laughed quietly. Tikki: 1, Plagg: 0.
Tom popped his head through Tikki's door. "Alright, kiddos, time for dinner."
"Coming, Papa," Marinette and Tikki said in unison. They all 4 jumped up, childishly racing to see who could get downstairs first, laughing and elbowing each others' ribs all the way.
