"So, have you decided on a ship name for them, yet?"
Startled, Marinette looked up from the half-done, flowing coral dress coming to life in her sketchbook and met her mother's gaze. It was the summer between 7th and 8th grade and they were currently halfway through July. Tikki was out with Plagg, Rena 'Trixx' Rouge, Reine 'Pollen' Abeille, Faucon 'Nooroo' Mite and Wayzz Carapace. Sabine was making lunch and Tom was preparing dessert for the new neighbors coming over for dinner.
Her mother hadn't specified who she meant but Marinette didn't have to ask.
"No," she groaned out, head falling back. "Alya is set on Bridgelix but I still think Plikki sounds better."
"What about Cheesecake?"
Marinette quirked an eyebrow at her father. "What does cheesecake have to do with anything?"
"No, I meant as a ship name. Plagg can't go a day without cheese and Tikki loves sweets, especially cookies and cake. Hence the name Cheesecake."
The bluenette bit her lip thoughtfully. "That's actually not a bad idea." She paused before admitting, "But, I still think Plikki sounds better."
"I'm guessing you created one for Alya and Nino as well," Sabine mused.
"I was gonna go with Nalya but now I'm leaning towards Djwifi."
Tom chuckled and Sabine rolled her eyes with a smile at their sheepish daughter.
"Oh, I forgot! Can you get the mail, sweetie?"
"Sure thing, Maman."
Marinette jumped up and dusted off her red tank top and white shorts, tucking her loose midnight locks behind one ear. Slipping on her pink flip-flops, she jogged to their mailbox. She pushed her hair out of her face and grabbed the 3 letters, careful to make sure they didn't fly away in the strong winds and turned to go back in her house when she saw a bright flash gleam in the strong sunlight, coming down the street.
The car was definitely expensive and was a grayish-silver. The color tickled at Marinette's memory but she found that she couldn't quite place it. The windows were tinted and she couldn't see who was inside as the car slowed down near her, no doubt the passengers could see her, however. It whizzed by her and pulled up at the homey, yet beautiful and large house in front of her.
Those must be the new neighbors.
"Marinette? A glass bowl shattered, get a band-aid for your mom!"
Tom's voice came through the open front door, just as the back-door of the car opened and someone started to step out. Reluctantly drawing her gaze away from the vehicle, Marinette caught only the orange sneaker of its bearer before she faced the empty threshold of her house.
"Coming Papa!"
Even with her back turned, she knew- she could just tell- that at least one occupant of the fancy car now gazed in her direction, at her retreating form. And although the curiosity almost killed her, although she was dying to know who would be entering her humble home later that evening, Marinette did not look over her shoulder.
She drew up her resistance and walked through the door.

"Tikki!"
The red-head looked up to see her younger sister hanging her head upside-down from the couch, reading a fashion magazine. She couldn't help a chuckle.
That was so utterly Marinette.
"Hey, Mari, what's up?"
Marinette shrugged, still hanging upside-down, feet thrown over the back of the living room couch. "Nothing much, we got the neighbors coming later and Mom accidentally shattered a glass bowl and cut herself."
