Bridie sped around her room trying to collect different articles of clothing and dumped them into her duffel bag.
"Bri?" The vampire turned around to see Alice, the left side of her body poked through her door and the pixies face was covered in sadness and guilt. "I-I didn't mean to push you..."
"Alice it's not your fault–"
"It's not your fault either Bridie." Alice pushed herself through the door and found the courage to sit on Bridie's bed. "You can't control who's scent is appealing to you and who's isn't." Bridie nodded along, sort of understanding what her sister was saying.
"This is something I can control Alice. And I will. For my sake and for Renesmee's, I promise. I'll only be gone a few weeks which is all I need to clear my mind and figure things out." Stress, Bridie told herself over and over again it's just stress making everything worse for everyone.
"You sure you don't want me or Jazz to come along?" Alice asked. Bridie shook her head.
"This is a quest I need to conquer by myself." The vampire placed a few more clothes into the bag and threw in her purse, a book and some toiletries. Zipping up the bag, Alice seized Bridie's hand and they walked down the stairs together. The whole family excluding Bella who was in the final hour of her transformation sat in the living room. Rosalie and Emmett stood holding onto Renesmee and the rest of the family were scattered through the room.
"Are you are you want to do this?" Carlisle asked Bridie placing an arm on her newly healed arm. Bridie looked over at Renesmee who was staring at her and hummed in response.
"It needs to be done." She replied quietly walking up to Rosalie. The blond smiled softly and gently passed Renesmee over to Bridie. "Ness I'm leaving for a little bit." Bridie whispered to the child. Renesmee started to cry in protest but a small hush from Bridie made her go quiet. "It's to keep you safe, I promise and I'll be back before you know it, yeah?" The vampire forced a smile but Renesmee could easily tell it was fake. Pressing her hand to Bridie's neck images of the twos short time flashed through Bridie's mind. She smiled and she could feel the burn in the back of her throat but she had to do something quickly. Pressing her lips to Renesmee's temple she managed to focus and send images of her father and Bridie joking around through the decades, ending with when Bridie and Edward hugged for the first time in months.
Renesmee giggled and Bridie handed her back to Rosalie. Digging into her jacket pocket, Bridie pulled out a small bracelet that she had had with her since she was a child as well and clasped it around Renesmee's small wrist. "Bridie please be safe." Esme pleaded, as her youngest looking daughter walked over to her.
"You know me– dangers my middle name." Bridie replied forcing a smile on her face.
"If I hear about the ripper then I'll come and join you." Emmett joked and Rosalie rolled her eyes.
"That's not the kind of 'vacation' I had in mind," Bridie started rolling her eyes like her sister "but thanks for the heads up. I'll keep it in mind."
"No you won't." Carlisle stated putting a hand on Bridie's shoulder. She turned to face him and she sighed.
"It's for the best, Carlisle." Bridie mumbled as the older vampire pulled her in for a hug.
"I know, I just wish you got to see Bella that's all."
"I promise I'll come back." She told her family as she let go of Carlisle, said goodbye to the rest of her family, picked up her bag and started walking to the door. Jasper followed and closed the front door behind him.
"Let me come with you." Jasper pleaded his eyes full of worry. Bridie turned to face him and shook her head.
"No, you need to stay here. For Bella, for Renesmee, for Alice." Bridie replied. Jasper nodded and dug into his back pocket.
"If you're gonna leave us again you'll need to do it with style. Cullen style." Bridie laughed.
"Thanks I think." She smiled. Jasper threw her a pair of keys and looked up at Jasper in awe. "You're joking aren't you?" She started at Jasper a small smile ghosted on her lips.
"Cullen style." Jasper repeated, and Bridie smiled staring at the key to his motorbike. Looking up at her brother awe she flung her arms around Jaspers neck. "Don't crash her." Jasper whispered into Bridie hugging her close.
"I wouldn't dream of it. Thank you so much Jasper." Bridie released her brother and smiled at him.
"Anything for my baby sister." His southern accent pooled out of his lips. Bridie rolled her eyes and lightly pushed his shoulder with her fist.
"I'll catch you later." Bridie's voice broke but she forced a smile and she threw on her helmet so as she rode out of town no one would recognise her.
"Call me when you get to wherever your destination is." Jasper called as Bridie loaded her bag into the back of the bike and took off, taking an unnecessary deep breath to calm herself. For the first time in years she was voluntarily away from her family and it felt strangely exciting.
