tyler was lost.

he'd been up for days, edging the brink of exhaustion. the only times he was out of his cell was to be fed or to be controlled.

the guards , everyday, took the inmates one by one into a room. electrodes would be strapped to their lolling heads, and a tv screen would turn on in front of them. for four  hours, everyday, DEMA brainwashed him.

he couldnt quite place why the control didnt work on him. why he wasnt dead yet. everything here was confusing. blurryface said he'd die here.

so why hadnt he?

tyler sometimes remembered his former life. before everything crumbled around him. there was a time when he was a hero. he saved teens from their own self induced demise and brought them hope. sweet, happy, yellow hope.

here? he hadnt seen hope. everything had slight red tinge to it.

fear. red was fear. thats what tyler remembered. tyler remembered fear.

tyler was being escorted back to his cell, thin arms gripped by a gaurd.

he passed someone. he didnt know what was so special about his prisioner.

something in his eyes. those dark brown eyes said something. tyler noticed a thin arm, with an elaborate tree tattoo on it, sticking out from under the plain, olive green jumpsuit. on his wrist, he noticed something alarming. a small yellow band, a tape of some sorts.

the two inmates locked eyes in false understanding as they passed each other through the halls.

"east is up." the man mouthed, making eye contact with tyler. tyler was confused, but complied and kept on walking.

it wasnt until when he got back to his cell, that then he realized. the man was telling him something.

yellow.

yellow meant hope. it means hope.

the strange man in the hall, tyler realized, could be his way out.

No longer would Tyler let DEMA control him.
