The remainder of summer seemed to drift by as Hailey spent the days alone at home. Everything wasn't the same anymore. It seemed dark. The house that she once loved looked so sad and abondoned. Jared had been very busy with his training and keeping up with their business at the same time. Their business wasn't as grand as before but Jared was trying his best to keep it because they're going to need every little thing they have left since it was only him and Hailey now. But even with his busy schedule, Jared made sure to still have time for his little sister.
Hailey couldn't tell Jared that she wasn't okay. She was completely sad about everything that's happened. In a year, they lost both of their parents and she wondered if it was some kind of punishment for her. For days, she had spent hours crying in her room, thinking things out and asking why He took her parents so soon. She would also go for long walks every afternoon and visit their parents' graves. She knew pretty well that she wouldn't enroll for next semester and she was fine with that. She was thinking of something else to do. She didn't want to be so useless and miserable anymore.
"Jar, I have something to ask." She thought hard about it first. But she just wanted to, she had to.
"What is it?" Jared replied as he chewed. They were having pasta and chicken that night. He managed to finish all his paper works that day and soon he would be one of the managers of the fine dining restaurant he was at. Losing both of their parents in short split moment devastated him. But he wouldn't let sadness take over him, he still had Hailey and she needed him most and that motivated him to do more.
"Can I work? I wanna work." She rephrased her sentence with a very determined voice.
"Work??" Jared repeated. "I'm not sure about that, Hail. Don't you think you're too young?"
Hailey shook her head. "I'm not, Jar. I'm already 18, I'm old enough to work."
Jared's brows furrowed as he thought of Hailey's decision. "Where are you going to work anyway? Does that mean you're not going to school this semester?"
Hailey took a deep breath feeling a little relief that Jared would allow her, he just needs a little push. "I don't know yet, but I'll try to look across town or see some ads in the newspaper or through facebook. And No, I've come to the decision to not attend school this semester."
There was a moment of silence and Hailey just wanted to have an answer from Jared right away. "Please, Jar. Let me, let me, puhleeeeease!"
Jared rolled his eyes at Hailey and sighed. "Fine."
"YESSSS!"
Jared was a bit worried, Hailey wasn't used to do such things alone but she's a young adult now and he wouldn't lock his sister
The next morning, Hailey woke up early to prepare for her day. She wore her black skinny jeans, a simple shirt that was maroon and her trusty Vans. Like the usual, she didn't wear any make up. She just did her brows and brushed her long brown hair. She looked so young and fresh.
"Hi, Jar. Good morning." Hailey greeted with much joy in her voice.
"Someone's in the mood." Jared turned to her as he turned the bacon on the frying pan. "You better eat up, sis. You're going to have a long day."
"Yes, sir." She smiled as she sat on one of the stools and Jared gave her a plate full of bacon, eggs and toasts. "You're not going to work today?"
