You winced as your three friends shamefully stepped out of the simulator they just failed. They hadn't exactly done very good, and now they were being scolded by the commander."Well let's see if we can't use this complete failure as a lesson for the rest of you students!" He began to lecture as Lance, Pidge, and Hunk all looked down, clearly embarrassed. You couldn't help but feel pretty bad for them. Your team and you had already gone and gotten nothing but praise and a small bit of criticism, but now you were watching as your friends were basically publicly humiliated.
"Can anyone point out the mistakes these three so called cadets made in the simulator?" He questioned the group of students. "The engineer puked in the main gearbox!" One boy pointed out. Your frown deepened as you noticed Hunk flinch a bit.
"Yes, as everyone knows, vomit is NOT an approved lubricant for engine systems! What else?" He yelled, glaring at Hunk. 'Why does he have to be so hard on them? It's not like making them feel like shit is gonna make them better pilots.' You thought to yourself, annoyed. "When are they gonna get it right?" One of your teammates quietly sighed next to you.
"Hey, go easy on them. Sure they made some mistakes, but we all did at one point! They'll get better eventually." You whispered back, lightly punching his arm. "I still don't understand why you're friends with them," your teammate responded, rolling his eyes light-heartedly.
The truth is, you hadn't been friends with them for very long. You had only known them for a couple weeks, but you're care towards the trio grew quickly. You never had many friends at Garrison other than your teammates and about two other people, since you had always focused more on your skills. Not to mention you weren't exactly the most outgoing person.
But when the three randomly decided to start up a conversation with you, you couldn't help but get attached. You quickly got caught up in their overwhelming confidence and support of each other, and now here you were defending them. You had a lot of faith in them, you knew they would get better and maybe even become a better pilot than you currently were.
You realized you had spaced out a bit when you heard one of your friends point out that Lance had crashed.
"Correct. And worst of all.." you tuned him out, not interested in hearing the lecture. Technically, you would probably already be back in your room right now, but Lance had told you he wanted to talk to you about something after the simulation, which you were a bit nervous for. Mostly because you were nervous he might want to talk about something serious, but also for..a different reason.
Sure, you were friends and you really did enjoy talking to him, but he had a bad habit of constantly flirting and using awful pick up lines whenever you talked. It really shouldn't affect you at all, because you knew Lance flirted with any girl he laid eyes on, but you absolutely could not take any sort of flirting, or a compliment for that matter.
Even if it was the stupidest shit, it would manage to turn you into a blushing mess. You're response always seemed to either be positive sobbing, incomprehensible babbling, confused noises, "thank you"s, or some awful amalgamation of the bunch.
You were suddenly thrown back into the conversation going on when you heard Pidge shout.
"That's not true sir!!" You looked at the boy, concerned. Pidge rarely got angry like that, you hoped he was okay. "What did you say?!" Iverson yelled back, glaring. Lance quickly covered Pidge's mouth and apologized for his yelling, as Pidge tried desperately to say more. You'd have to remember to ask him what he was trying to say later.
"I hope I don't need to remind you that the only reason you're here is that the best pilot in your class had a discipline issue and flunked out," Iverson stated, harshly.
