You tried to think about something, anything else. But the thought of Loki laying with another woman was burned into your brain. And the way he had spoken to you... The words replayed in your mind, caught in an endless loop.

What are you even doing here? I don't want to see you.

He seemed so angry. And you didn't understand why. You had done what you did to protect him. Because... Because you were in love with him.

And now he was screwing some wench across the hall. He hated you, that much was obvious. It was truly foolish of you to even consider the possibility that he might feel the same way. You wondered if that mystery woman was now running her hands through his hair, as you had longed to do for so many weeks now. You wondered if he kissed her softly, then passionately, or if it was all fire and heat and -

A knock on the door drew you away from your spiral of thoughts. You hoped it was Steve, assigning you to an emergency mission so you wouldn't have to face Loki for a few days.

You swung the door open - and were shocked to see a distraught Loki. Before you could even say anything, he slammed you against the door,  and brought his lips to your own. The kiss obliterated you, and once your initial shock wore off, you wrapped your legs around Loki's narrow hips and tangled your fingers in his inky black hair.

It was lightening coursing through your veins, fire wherever Loki's fingers brushed your skin. It was passion and heat, nothing and everything you had dreamt it to be.

You both paused briefly, needing to come up for air.

"I didn't mean what I said," Loki breathed. "There's a little bit of truth in everything, but I've always been a compulsive liar."

You huffed out a laugh, moving to touch him again, to breathe his air again. Loki stopped you by putting a finger on your lips.

"I have never been more wholly terrified in all my life than when I saw take those bullets for me." The finger on your lips trailed to your check, then stayed there. "I wanted to walk right back into that HYDRA facility and bring the whole damn building down for you."

"Loki..."

"If you die," he spoke, so softly that it was barely a whisper. "I die."

And somehow that was all you needed to hear. Somehow, that was infinitely more powerful than the three little words you had been wanting to say to him for so long.

"If you die," you said back to him, putting a hand on either side of his face, and bringing your lips so close that they were barely touching. I die."

Loki smiled, and everything else faded away. It was as it should be.

Just you, and him.

And nothing else mattered.
