"Scared, Parker?"
"Is it bad if I say kinda?"
You laughed, before spinning your hands in an arc and sending a wave of electricity at Peter. He dodged it easily, dancing out of the way with that grace he always seemed to possess. Well, almost always. There was that time he fell down the stairs after receiving a text from Liz asking him out.
You fumed at the thought, and sparks danced at your fingertips.
Though it had been two months since the accident, your newfound abilities still surprised you.
Banner said the weapon that had hit you caused a mutation within your genetic code, and that's why you suddenly had the ability to control electricity. Within a week, you were out of the hospital. A month, and you were moved into Avengers Headquarters. You weren't technically an Avenger. Yet. Cap said you needed a lot more training before you earned that title. But even though you weren't technically an Avenger, you still felt like you were a part of something. It was more than a team; it was a family. Something you had been lacking for your entire life.
"Y/N, focus!" Peter called to you when you tripped over a piece of equipment, so lost in thought you hadn't seen it.
You let out a groan of frustration, rolling to avoid a web grenade. Then you let your sparks fly.
><><
Peter had been staring at his phone for nearly fifteen minutes now. He was probably texting Liz, and the thought made you want to shatter a window.
"Hey, do you mind if we cut today's training a little short?"
Peter looked up from his phone. You examined your nails, trying to appear bored. As though his reaction didn't matter in the slightest.
"Sure. Can I ask why?"
"Oh, it's nothing. I just have a date I wanted to get ready for."
Peter was silent. Then, "Oh."
"Yeah." It wasn't exactly the reaction you had been hoping for.
"Okay, well cool. You should go get ready or whatever," Peter said, returning to his phone.
You slung your training bag over your shoulder, about to leave the room, when you had an idea. "Oh, one more thing."
Peter sighed harshly through his nose. "Yeah?"
He sounded annoyed. Was that a good sign? Did that mean he cared?
"Do you have any condoms on you?" You asked. "Because the guy who asked me out is extremely hot, and I was thinking-"
"Hold on a second. Back up. Who's this guy again?"
You said the first name that popped into your head. "Pietro."
Peters eyes flashed. "You've got to be kidding me."
Alright, so maybe it wasn't your best choice to make up a date with the man who annoyed Peter to no end, but you just wanted to see if he liked you as much as you like him. And you were too much of a coward to simply ask.
"Peter-"
"Come on, Y/N. He's a class A douche, you could do way better than him."
That made you pause. "What do you mean?"
Peter opened and closed his mouth, like a fish out of water.
"I can date whoever I want, Peter Parker. Unless you give me a reason not to."
There it was, all laid out on the table. Your move, Parker.
"Y/N, what are you doing?" Peter asked, eyes flashing.
You shook your head. That was as much of an answer as you were going to get. "Nothing, I... It's nothing."
Why were you so prone to ruining things? Peter was the one good thing you had going for you, and now...
How could you have been so stupid as to think he might feel the same way?
You turned to leave, trying to stave off the tears that burned behind your eyes, but before you have even taken two steps, Peter grabbed you. He spun you around.
"What the hell are you-"
Peter silenced you with a searing kiss. You didn't return it at first, still in shock. Peter moved away from you, but this time you laced your arms around his neck and pulled him closer to you, until you were flush against each other.
Peter was grinning when you finally pulled away, his eyes glazed over with something you couldn't place. "I've wanted to do that since the day I met you."
You laughed, slinging your arm around his shoulders. You rested your head on his shoulder.
"Me too, Parker. Me too."
A/N
Ahhhh! I've been gone for so long. I'm sorry! I've been doing NaNoWriMo this year (ya girl's at 26,000 words), so I haven't had a lot of time for casual writing. Also, Stan Lee passed away. I think I can speak for all of us when I say we will miss his iconic cameos. ❤️
