--------------
As I sat in "Butterfly Café", drinking steaming hot tea, I looked out the window towards at street. I watched the packs of birds migrating in the sky, signaling the nearing winter, the cars on the road driving slowly and the people walking down the street, all smiling and happy.
All of which happened before a golden glow of some sort caught my eye.
I blinked once, twice, three times, I was sure my eyes have me fooled but that wasn't the case.
I was not imagining, it was him- Sam, walking down the street with an agonized look on his face, wearing the same trunks and top I let him have a month ago.
"S-Stewart, money's on the table, I gotta run!" I called at my childhood friend who owned Butterfly Café, leaving a $10 bill on the table, I had to get to him, I was not gonna let him slip through this time.
"Sam!" I called as I hurried to catch up with him. He lifted his head slowly, it almost seemed as if it all happened in slow motion, his beautiful eyes seemed like they were a different color, they were kind of purple. I blinked and they were blue again, I must have imagined that.
He looked at me confused. "Halo?"
"Sam! That's so crazy, wh-where have you been?!" I fumbled over my words, not really knowing what to say.
Quickly he pulled me into the nearest ally.
"Halo, it's not safe for you to be around me, I am not safe." He said seriously. I narrowed my eyes at him, "not safe? How come?" I asked questioning his choice of words.
"I don't know, but trouble seems to be chasing me, there are people after me. I swear!
And.. and I hear these high pitched sounds from time to time in my head, it is excruciating! The pain, it's killing me, you do not want to be associated with me." He said, tears flooding my eyes just watching him suffer like that even though I met the guy just once before today.
That's when I just zoned out.
"Dad! What is that horrible sound?! My ears!" young halo screamed through a screeching sound that came from nowhere really.
Leonard laughed as he turned down the stereo.
"It is the language of the angels; we are unable to understand because it is beyond our capabilities"
"Angels? What are you talking about?" halo asked as Leonard laughed quietly to himself.
"One day, daughter. It is too soon for you to bother yourself with such things." He said patting Halo's head.
--present day—
Everything clicked; the flashback, what Richard had told me, my dad's notebook, how Sam's injury healed literally overnight!
Sam wasn't a schizophrenic mess, he was an angel, a fallen angel, and he didn't even remember it.
And I know that I should've left things as they were and run the other way, but my body was stronger than me, I took him by the hand. He jerked back at first but didn't try to resist.
"You're coming with me." I said and took him to my car.
With no hesitation at all I opened the passenger seat's door and ordered him to sit down and buckle the hell up.
