Three months later and it was September 1st. Draco and I's birthday was June 5th so we didn't have much time to prepare for our leave to Hogwarts. We got everything in order last minute and I was finally ready to go.
I knew the hardest goodbye would be to Dobby. Before breakfast, Dobby snuck into my room. "Miss (Y/N), you look wonderful for your first day!"
I smiled and gave Dobby a spin. "You think?"
"Indeed! You will reach great heights at Hogwarts, Dobby just knows it."
"Thank you, Dobby." I felt guilt in my heart as he looked up at me with those eyes of his. "I will miss you the most. I wish I could just stuff you in my pocket and take you with me." I chuckled.
Tears welled up in his eyes and he rushed to hug my legs. I sat on my knees so I could be at his level and hugged him back fully. He buried his head into my shoulder, his tears soaking into my shirt. This made tears come to my eyes as well. I didn't want to leave him there alone with my awful parents. I hated the idea of only seeing him on holidays.
"I'm sorry..." I hugged him tighter, not wanting to let go.
"Dobby will miss his friend..." he said shakily.
"(Y/N) will miss her friend too." I whispered to him, reassuringly.

After a dreadfully long train ride with my brother and his friends Crabbe and Goyle, we were at Hogwarts. Throughout the entire ride there was talk of a new wizard at Hogwarts, Harry Potter. My father had instructed Draco to befriend The Boy Who Lived. Father believed in the theory that Potter would be a great dark wizard in the future and was comforted by the idea that he would have another chance at world domination. Of course, we didn't know those were Father's full intentions at such a young age.
After we met Professor McGonagall and she welcomed us to Hogwarts, Draco spotted Harry at the front of the crowd of first years.
"It's true then, what they're saying on the train." Draco directed his comment towards Harry. "Harry Potter has come to Hogwarts." Students whispering filled the silence. "This is Crabbe, Goyle, and my sister, (Y/N)...and I'm Malfoy..." My brother walked up to Harry as I trailed along behind him. "Draco Malfoy" he said.
A ginger boy standing next to Harry chuckled at Draco. Draco's head turned straight to him and he glared at the redheaded boy.
"Think my name is funny, do you? No need to ask you yours. Red hair, and a hand-me-down robe? You must be a Weasley." Draco said as if he were disgusted. The boy looked down, ashamed and embarrassed.
Draco turned back towards Harry. "You'll soon find out that some wizarding families are better than others, Potter. You don't want to go making friends with the wrong sort." He looked at Ron again. "I can help you there." Draco stuck his hand out for Harry to shake.
Harry glanced down at Draco's extended hand and then back up to him. "I think I can tell the wrong sort for myself, thanks." Draco looked shocked at his response. I couldn't help but smirk at the fact that Harry had rejected my brother.
As my brother turned to leave, I glanced at the redheaded boy. His puppy-like eyes met mine and my stomach immediately began to flutter. I tried ignoring that feeling and quickly looked away. I wanted to apologize for my brother, but I couldn't bring myself to speak up.

All the first years shuffled into The Great Hall to be sorted into their houses. By a talking hat no less. Since I was a Malfoy, there was no question that I would be sorted into Slytherin, as would my brother. If the ginger boy was really a Weasley like Draco had said, he would be sorted into Gryffindor like the rest of his family. I didn't know why at the time, but that thought disappointed me.
Draco was the second student to be called up to The Sorting Hat. Not surprisingly, he was sorted into Slytherin before the hat even touched his head. "(Y/N) Malfoy..." McGonagall called out. I was up next. I slowly walked up to the stage where McGonagall held The Sorting Hat. My hands quickly became cold and sweaty as I sat down on the stool and the hat was placed onto my head.
My eyes were drawn to the ginger boy in the crowd of students like a magnet. Our eyes met once again and I could feel my face getting hot. His cheeks became rosy and he glanced down. A smile crept across my face and I looked down at my feet.
"Ahh, another Malfoy!" The Sorting Hat said, cutting off a moment that felt like ages. "Hmm, you aren't as easy to place as your brother. The history of Slytherin flows through your veins, yes, but you possess traits of every house in fact. You have nerve like a Gryffindor, justice is in your heart like a Hufflepuff, creativity and intelligence radiate from you like a Ravenclaw, you are a natural leader like a Slytherin. There is no denying you would prosper in every house. But there is one house calling your name. It had better be..." My fists clenched and I bit the inside of my cheeks in anticipation. "...Slytherin!"
The Slytherin table all cheered for me, except for my brother. I walked over to the table and sat by Draco. "Why'd the hat take so long to decide?" he snapped. I shrugged and looked to the stage.
"Ronald Weasley" McGonagall called. Sure enough, the redheaded boy was the one who took the stage. I couldn't hear what the hat was saying to him but I heard it yell out the decision. "...Gryffindor!" I felt a pit in my stomach as I unconsciously whispered "Ron..."
"What?" Draco said to me harshly. I shook my head. "Nothing."

After the Sorting ceremony, our prefect began walking us to the Slytherin common room. Draco and I walked rather swiftly as Crabbe and Goyle slugged along behind us.
"That was humiliating." Draco said to me, obviously irritated.
"What was?" I asked, confused.
"Have you forgotten already? Father instructed me to befriend Potter." he said, frustrated. "How can I face him again when I've ruined my chance?"
"Just tell him that Potter isn't who he thought he was. I mean, he did get sorted into Gryffindor after all."
"You're right. I don't know why Father would want me to be friends with such a coward anyway." Draco sighed with relief.
This just made me think about why I was sorted into Slytherin. Was I really just placed into Slytherin because of my blood? Because of family? I was nothing like my family, could The Sorting Hat have made a mistake?
