A few months later and it was Christmas break. Since Dobby was now free from my family, I had no reason or want to go back home for the holidays. My brother wanted to stay at Hogwarts as well, but I had a feeling it was just because he wanted to stir up trouble and roam about the castle. Luna wanted to stay at school to keep me company since she figured I'd be lonely without her.

In the Great Hall, I sat with Luna at the usual Ravenclaw table for lunch on Christmas Day. Not many students were staying at Hogwarts during break so the tables were much emptier than usual and everyone sat where they pleased, despite what house they were in.

"Merry Christmas, Luna." I greeted her.

"Merry Christmas, (Y/N). I have something for you." Luna informed me.

"You do? I didn't realize we were going to exchange gifts, I would've gotten you something."

"It's not much. Here." Luna pulled out a small box from her pocket and handed it to me. It had a dark purple ribbon wrapped around it that I had to untie to be able to open it. Inside the box was a necklace. It had a butterbeer cork as the charm and a thin, sky blue ribbon attached to it. The necklace matched the one Luna wore constantly.

"Keeps away the Nargles." we both said simultaneously. I chuckled. Luna believed in a creature that she called a Nargle. There was no proof that such creature existed, but they are said to infest mistletoe and be mischievous thieves. This is one reason Luna's been given the nickname 'Loony' Lovegood. No one believes these creatures exist. The necklace that Luna had just given me was a handmade charm that she believed would repel Nargles.

"Remember at the beginning of the year, when you told me your essay for History of Magic had vanished?" Luna asked.

"Oh yeah, the essay on medieval witch burnings." I replied.

"Right. Well I'm sure the Nargles took it. They must have it out for you now that we're so close. So it's only right that I give you some protection." she explained.

"Thank you so much, Luna. I truly love it." I put the necklace around my neck and fiddled with the butterbeer cork. I leaned over the table and touched the cork to her matching one. "Now we match." my eyes smiled at her.

The Gryffindor table was right behind Luna, and by looking in her direction, I had accidentally caught a glimpse of the fiery ginger. Ron had already been looking at me, or in my direction, when my eye found him. The side of his lips turned up in an awkward smile and I returned a bright smile his way. His cheeks then turned the color of his hair and he awkwardly looked away, pretending to engage in a conversation with Harry and Hermione.

It was a Hogsmeade weekend which meant that us third years were finally allowed to take trips to the neighboring village, Hogsmeade. It was a village full of quaint shops that I thoroughly enjoyed visiting.

Luna and I had been dragging each other by the arm from shop to shop. We were stacking up on sweets from Honeydukes Sweetshop and cheesy joke items from Zonko's Joke Shop. When we stumbled into The Three Broomsticks, a popular pub for students to order the famous Butterbeer, I spotted my brother laughing with his friends in a corner booth. He called to me and motioned for me to sit with them. I suggested Luna get a table for us two and I'd be back in just a moment. I walked over to my brother.

"Have you heard the good news yet?" Draco looked rather proud of himself.

I shook my head. "No, what is it?"

"That ugly beast that attacked me is going to be executed! Thanks to Father, of course." he boasted, laughing at the situation.

I was in shock to hear this and had no idea what to say. "You seem happy with yourself."

"Of course I am. That deformed chicken is finally going to get what's coming to him."

I raised my eyebrows in response. "I'll catch you later."

I returned to Luna sitting at a table with two butterbeers waiting for us. I sat down across from her as she was taking a sip of her drink. "I feel sick. Draco just told me he had Father convince his way into getting Buckbeak executed. Executed."

Luna put down her drink and waited a few seconds to respond. "That's a rotten thing to do. Just rotten."

"That's my family for you. A dreadfully rotten bunch. Why go to such an extreme like that because of a minor incident that he provoked? I'm so sick of him."

"I wish there was something we could do." Luna sighed.

"Me too." I looked down and we finished off the rest of our butterbeers in silence.

Leaving The Three Broomsticks, Luna and I huddled up together as it had gotten colder out. "Look, (Y/N)! It's snowing!" Luna pointed out to me. I looked up at the darkening sky and saw the beginning of snowflakes falling. We stood there for a while just admiring the snowfall and letting the snowflakes fall onto our mittens to examine their unique shapes.

Luna was still exploring the different snowflakes that lay on her when I looked up and noticed a pair of eyes looking directly at me. I could see Ron's red hair peeking out behind his winter hat, as well as his eyes that had turn grey in the dim lighting, that wore a very concerned expression. Ron wore a worrisome look often, but this was different. He almost looked disappointed or stern.

Harry and Hermione stood with him and seemed to be very upset. They both shot me a dirty look but didn't pay much attention after that. Ron on the other hand was still staring at me.

I didn't break eye contact with Ron until Luna pulled me away to continue walking, unknowing of the stares directed my way

I didn't break eye contact with Ron until Luna pulled me away to continue walking, unknowing of the stares directed my way.

Once again, my mind was racing. They must've heard about Buckbeak. They must think I have something to do with this, or that I support it. Who wouldn't think that? It was my own brother who wanted consequences and my own father who sought them out. Why must their actions reflect on me? I wanted nothing to do with this. The thought of slaughtering such a beautiful, innocent creature made me sick to my stomach. I wish people could see the truth and stop judging me for something I had no control over.

"I hate my father. And my whiny excuse for a brother too." I said out of anger as I walked with Luna arm in arm to the castle.
