Chapter 15

                Kolt Lightning arose with a start.  An alarm bell had begun to sound.  He quickly stumbled around the room getting dressed.

                He left his room in a hurry and turned around to make sure he pulled his door shut.  Upon turning back around, he ran smack dab into Ryder.

                “Sorry, Ryd.  I didn’t see you there.”

                “It’s okay.”  Ryder smiled.  “I heard the alarm going off.  So I came to get you.”

                “Yeah, thanks.  Let’s go to the command center.”

                So the pair walked through the ship to get to the command center.  As they stepped through the doorway, the alarm had already stopped going off.  However, a letter was printing off from the letter machine.

To Whom It May Concern:

We suggest that you return home immediately.  We, here, have detected more life forms on the planet Earth.  Something has happened here at the complex as well.  You need to let Samuel Cryer go.  Please don’t delay.  Come home now!

Kolt’s face dropped as he read the letter.  Ryder began to understand how Kolt was feeling.  A few seconds passed before Ryder decided to speak.

                “Kolt, we can’t give up now.”  Ryder crossed to stand next to him.  “We can’t.  There are more people here that need our help.  They need us to rescue them.”

                “Okay.”  Kolt sighed.  He shook his head to clear his thoughts.  “Okay, let’s grab our moon shoes and take to the skies.”

                The two heroes flew over the desolate, barren landscape.  What they were looking for, neither of them knew.  But they both knew that when they found it, they would definitely know.

                After flying for what seemed like hours, Ryder pointed to the south.  Kolt nodded in consent and together, they shifted course.

                A light source was visible in the distance, shortly after turning directions.  As they got closer, they slowed their speed.  They circled the light when they finally reached it.  They wanted to gather as much intel on the new place that they had discovered.  They flew around for a few more minutes before Kolt nudged Ryder to land.

They landed just outside this new complex.  The wall towered over their heads.

“Ryder…” Kolt began but was cut off.

“Kolt, what is this place?”

“I think it’s some sort of base.  With these walls and long concrete streets, I am not sure what else this could be.  It has to be a base.”

“Did you see anyone on the base?  Because I didn’t.”

“Nope.”

                “So, how do they survive with the high radiation levels?”

                “Not sure.  Maybe they are all underground?”

                “Well, now what?” asked Ryder.
