"Mom? Dad?"
My body went into shock mode, just by looking at them.
"What are you doing here? H-how did you find me?" I questioned them.
"Honey, that's not how you greet your parents." My dad said.
I rolled my eyes. "How did you find me?" I said in a stern voice.
"Koda, we're political leaders. Do you know how many connections we have with a lot of people around here? Including your school and that neighbor of yours?" My mom said.
"You mean Nathan?" I asked, suddenly becoming furious.
"Yes, that kid. Anyways, since we kind of got the hint that you don't want to go back to Flori-" I cut my mom off.
"You got that right." I said, rolling my eyes.
"Don't interrupt your mother like that." My dad scolded at me.
I rolled my eyes. Again.
"Honey, stop rolling your eyes or you'll look like a lunatic and that will ruin o-" I cut my mom off. Again.
"Yeah, yeah, ruin your image and reputation as a stupid political leader, blah, blah, blah.." I muttered.
"Anyways, since we figured out that you wouldn't come back to Florida with us, your family.. We decided that we would move up here in the city with you." My mother said, clapping.
That's when Godzilla broke loose.
"What?! You can't do that?!" I shouted at them.
"Honey, yes we can. We're your parents, and we need to keep an eye on you!" My father said, raising his voice.
"Oh, cut that bullshit! You're just using me for your reputation and career so you can make yourselves look so much better than everybody else!" I shouted.
"Dakota! Don't you dare yell at us again!" My mother shouted.
"No! You can't tell me what to do anymore! I'm almost 18 and I practically grew up by myself! I never got to create those early childhood moments with my parents like every 6 or 7 year old should've created! I never had at least one of you guys show up to those stupid recitals you forced me to do, just to make yourselves look better! I fucking learned how to do ballet just to please you guys, thinking that you guys would finally be proud of something that I did on my own, but no! You just bragged to all your friends about how many trophies and academic achievements I have "achieved", when really, you just bribed all of my teachers money for your own good! So don't you fucking dare tell me what to do anymore, or I swear to god I'll spoil your stupid reputation for good this time!" I shouted at my parents, with tears streaming down my face.
I grabbed my keys and phone, walking towards the door, hearing my parents trying to talk to me in the background. I opened the door and whipped around.
"And you know what hurts the most? Out of all of these years, begging you guys, reminding you guys, with those endless phone calls and little stickie notes that I would write to you.. You guys never showed up to my little 'meet my parents' day in kindergarden, or 'bring your parents to lunch' day, or even my stupid graduations that I would have in elementary school and middle school.. I would always be that kid in the corner or at the end of the lunch table, with really expensive crap that you guys would always buy me, thinking that those things would replace you on those special days, when really, I just wanted the two people who fucking created me to be there. Even if it was just for a split second." I slammed the door.
~
I was walking to who knows where while it was pouring rain outside. Me, being the stupid idiot that I am, left the apartment with my pjs on, so I look like an idiot right now in front of the whole city.
