I hear a rapid knocking on my front door. After getting out of bed and getting dressed quickly, I answer the door to see Katelyn, my childhood friend.

"Hurry up!" she says. "We're gonna be late to school!"

"Kate...it's Saturday."

"Eh? Right...sorry!"

"Don't worry about it. You wanna hang out for a few minutes while you're here?"

"Um...s-sure..."

"Alright. Come on in."

"Uh...right..."

"Are you okay?"

"Y-Yeah...w-why?"

"Well, you're stuttering a lot."

We sit down on the couch in front of the TV.

"Ahahah...th-that's nothing..."

"And you seemingly have to think a second before you do or say anything."

"C-Can we stop t-talking about this?"

"...Alright. What do you wanna watch?"

"Yo-I MEAN cartoons," Katelyn says, blushing furiously.

"Were you just about to say you wanted to watch-"

"Sh-Shut up."

"Okay..."

We sit in silence, watching our favorite shows.

Quietly, Katelyn says, "Just like old times..."

Old times? Quite odd since we've just met today...

Wait. We're best friends. Silly brain, trying to fool me.

A few hours pass before Katelyn slowly says, "I...should probably get going..."

"Eh? Got homework?"

"No...but I promised theaaaaa friend that I would...erm...meet up with them..."

"Oh. Well, see you soon, then."

"Yeah...see ya."

I notice that she seems depressed to leave. She always has been since we met.

I continue watching TV for a few more hours (with lunch and dinner, of course) before the knocking comes back. I answer it quickly, but see nobody.

"Peculiar. If it's a prank, it's not a good one...wonder how Katelyn's doing?"

I close the door and sit down, pulling out my phone. I text her to see if she's okay.

I'm fine.

You sure? You kinda left in a hurry.

Yeah.

Alright. Just making sure.

Alright. Thanks.

Any time.

I put my phone away and head to bed. Maybe I don't have anything to fear this time.

This time? Where did that come from?...Whatever.

Sweet dreams, me.

I wake up in the morning feeling refreshed. Tired, but refreshed. I guess it's time to go for a walk.
