Currently, everyone was occupied, so Eiden took the opportunity to explore the house.
He started with the first floor. The house was massive and the living room was something out of a magazine. There was a 70-inch flat screen TV with storage below it that resembled game stop.
The kitchen and pantry were well stocked and managed with an industrial fridge and deep freezer.
Everything looked so clean and organized. It was as if the apocalypse was a foreign nightmare.
There was no meat in sight aside from fish, so he assumed that Maecy was a pescetarian.
There were 2 rooms on the first floor. One being Deliah's and the other was where his sister was resting along with her child. There were 2 doors in the kitchen. The one that was unlocked went downstairs presumably to the basement. The other had blinds blocking the other end of the window.
Eiden started going up the grand stairwell to acknowledge the three photos of Maecy and Deliah as well as a hanging empty picture frame.
When he got to the top, he saw 3 bedrooms. Aside from the master, one was an additional guestroom, and the other was unknown to him. Thus, he went to open the door with an inactive padlock. It was a well-sized room with a crib, a changing table, and a bunch of boxes.
Some of the boxes weren't finished being taped shut.
Eiden left the room quickly and went to the weird door that stood awkwardly on its own across from the master.
When opening it, his mouth dropped for two reasons.
The room was towering in books, and maecy sat playing the grand piano.
Her song was sad enough to nearly bring Eiden to tears. When she finished Eiden clapped, startling the woman.
"Gosh, you scared me."
Maecy said while lowering the piano cover. Maecy wore a simple blue dress- in her standards- and no shoes.
"Sorry, I was just looking around and saw that door. You're a beautiful pianist."
"Thanks. My dad taught me. That was Nuvole Bianche by ludovico Einaudi. That door led you to my library. I read so much that I made sure to have one built."
Maecy stood and collected some books from the table and chair set that were stopping Eiden from sitting down. She made her way across the likely 700sq ft room to a ladder.
"Hold fast there, you've only been resting a week. I'll put these up while you take a seat." Eiden said as he took the books and placed them correctly based on color, then size, and the alphabet. 'This girl is so organized that It seems obsessive.' He thought while looking through the books to find "The Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseini.
"That was one of the first books that I ever put in this room. It is both graphic and truly powerful." Maecy noted while sitting cross-legged in one of two white leather chairs with a table in front.
"I read this in a library before it got shut down for housing state banned books. Growing up in Texas was rough." He replied.
"My mom was from Texas, so I can kinda understand, she always said she hated it."
Eiden and her sat for 4 hours and talked about everything from food to books to science, and maecy hasn't felt this compelled by a person in a while. The conversation came to a peaceful silence.
"Why are you single when you're this perfect?" Eiden questioned honestly.
The air changed instantly and the silence was no longer pleasant. Maecy looked at Eiden's blushing and shocked face and decided to respond to the boy.
"I, just like everyone, have faults, and ,for some, those faults are deal breakers."
She stood and left quietly.
