Manik

I reached rehab in search of my brother "Aarymaan , Aarymaan Khurana". Though we were cousins still brothers with different mothers.
We used to play football as a team and always won the game. He was handsome with killer looks, and was aware of the tact how to make fell women for him. Still as younger we enjoyed each others company.

After the departure of our parents at the same time in accident, he dragged himself in depression and blamed me for the same. He hated me for that. I couldn't make out how to console him as well as myself from this big loss. Day by day his condition got worse, once he tried to poison himself but was unlucky. At last I had to shift him to rehab.

At the reception inside the hostel I enquired about him and I came to learn about the last night ceremony. Yet some of the students were there at the party venue. I took my leave to reach there.

Instead of car I took my Royal Enfield to amuse myself in the way to the venue. As I reached my destination, crowd present over there took my attention. I ran fast with curiosity, to find what's the matter.

"See, how brutally she hit on head, the guy died on the spot. "

"He should be punished like that, cheap drug addict. "

"She was mad and uncontrolled, why they let her go out of the premises of the rehab. "

Listening to the people my mind started processing, something' fishy. Why am I feeling different, something bad was going to happen. I ran inside towards the crowd moving at the spot. As I stopped, my veins popping out, voice roaring like thunders, spatting curses I moved to see Aarymaan on stretcher carried by medic team for immediate treatment.

"Doctor...... " with lots of questions in eyes.

"Still we have hope.. " He dapped on my shoulder.

"Just pray to God everything would be fine. "I enquired about him to doctor.

They rushed soon with Aarymaan to hospital. With ducts and tubes he looked pale and lifeless. My mind kept praying for his life.

Squad team arrived me with the case incharge Mr. Ranjeet Kukreja.

"I want every detail of the case as soon as possible and attacker should be punished."

Though Aarymaan was drug addict everyone knew it very well, he was recovering, he concentrated on his education and I tried to settle down all differences. But sudden panic attacks reverted back his condition.

"Who dared to attack him officer, where were the security men, I don't pay bundle of notes for their amusement. "

"I am sorry sir this is different matter."

"Different, he's on death bed, in which manner it could be different. "

"A girl of same rehab attacked him. Aarymaan was smitten by her. Up to last night everything was good even they both entered the party as a couple. We had to enquiry about every bit of detail to solve the case."

"Where's that girl? I wanna see her, who had a nerve to think about this."

"Mental asylum "

"I am gonna make her life hell"

With my bike I reached the asylum to the room where she was solituded. I stood infront of the glass shield, on the other side she was seated on the chair with her back.

Ward boy ordered her to turn her face towards the sheild on my gesture.

And she turned and stood near the glass with loose gown of knee length with messy hair and handcuffs.

I couldn't figure out her clearly but  tried.

I was zoned out by looking at the similar face which reminds me to live my life "happily ever after ", my attention perked up when I found her but.... all anger disappeared, as I was so frantic looking her right now, my expression was ambivalent whether to be angry or to shout or to cry, I was tongue tied. I tried to speak but my throat was so parched...

Snickering mildy, I whispered her name "Nandani "......

I ran out to the porch to scream out loud and I cried.. The girl whom I loved so much, how could she attempt murder. Nandani is full of life how....

she's not supposed to be with Aarymaan ''a playboy ".

With blur imaginations, exhausted body and mind I felt gloomy, making tunnels in hairs then cupping own face I watched love birds caressing each other, hopping from one branch to other and feeding each other was something different.

Reminiscing the moment I proposed Nandani, how tears welled her eyes, hugging me she nodded in yes. No, she can't be one, there's some else, the root cause of the incident.

Nandani Nandani Nandani ........

My head started throbbing. I had to find only she could answer me.

I ran to the cabin where I stood but she wasn't there.

I enquired, she was shifted to her room.

I opened the door, I was shocked to see her lying unconscious on the bed.

"Sir she got panic attacks and we'd to run through electric shocks"

Even I can't imagine her like that, She looked so miserable. Suddenly doctor arrived.

"doctor, never ever touch or treat her like that, I'll take care of her. " grabbing his collar I threatened furiously with politeness.

                              ****

I sat near Aarymaan clasping his hands, he opened his eyes to see me and jerked his hand. Removing the oxygen mask he gestured me to come closer and whispered.

"Nandani meri hai, wo agar meri nae to kisi ki bhi nae," and he chuckled.

Glaring at me he displayed whole incident which was unfeatured. Now I could join all the dots of the puzzles to make the scenario clear.

                               ****

I asked doctor about her, they replied about her misbehaviour, throwing things, sobbing hard due to panic attacks. They made her calm by tranquilizers. She has to be here for long due to her miserable condition.

Like a child so innocently she drove herself inside the duvet, her long hair were a beautiful mess. I tugged her hairs, behind the ears. She jumped back seeing me, it felt like apparition to her. She looked scared, her expression revealed everything she suffered.

"Go away go away Aarymaan.... "

"Don't touch me, I don't love you... "

"I only love Manik... "

I myself got traumatized seeing her so helpless, so miserable. I couldn't bear this all, I ran outside cabin.

"Do we have any hope doctor "?

"We couldn't assure you, but still proper care taken might help her to get rid of this trauma. "
