Alec's breath caught in his throat as he saw Magnus stand at the other end of the room, his muscular frame blocking the doorway. Jace gasped and turned to Isabelle who had a proud smile on her face.
"What's that warlock doing her?" Maryse snapped, but no one paid her any attention. Lydia gently smiled at Alec, feeling the discomfort which was radiating out of him.
"Izzie, did Alec invite Magnus?" Jace asked, shocked at the sudden turn of events. She shook her head. "I did. But I didn't think he'd show," she replied, smiling and looking around to look at Alec who seemed somewhat breathless.
"Magnus, leave this wedding, NOW!" Maryse demanded. Magnus took no notice of her and glared at her coldly. "Maryse, this is between me and your son. I'll leave if he asks me to," he said coolly. To Alec it sounded like a challenge.
"Are you gonna be okay buddy?" Jace asked worriedly, looking at his parabatai. Alec mustered a smile and nodded. "I can't breathe," he gasped, pulling the tight collar of his shirt slightly farther from his neck. There was a frightened expression in his dark eyes. Thankfully Lydia was sympathetic. "I know, it's okay," she said kindly, smiling at him but her tone wasn't entirely level. She was confused.
"I can't do this. I thought I was doing the right thing but...this isn't it," Alec eventually managed to choke out. Lydia felt her stomach sink, but she nodded, determined not to be selfish. She placed her hand on Alec's cheek and smiled comfortingly. "It's okay, you don't have to explain," she whispered and seeing Alec's worried expression she added, "you deserve to be happy." She dropped her hand away and Alec gulped nervously, already wondering what one earth he was doing.
He turned and gazed down the aisle, his eyes locking with the narrowed, angry eyes, of the High Warlock of Brooklyn. He had never seen Magnus look so stunning, in his elegantly tailored suit, his spiked hair with the red tips, and the dark eyeliner that gave him a dangerous, determined look. Alec ran through his options, then realised that no matter what he did someone would be hurt, so it would be better to not think and let his heart decide. If that was even possible. He stepped forward, not breaking eye contact and made sure his stride was slow and determined.
"Alec-!"
"Enough." Alec cut his mother off sharply, walking past her and towards the waiting warlock. He grabbed Magnus by the collar and pressed his lips against Magnus', kissing him firmly. A collective gasp went through the audience.
Alec wanted to pull away, he was terrified that he had done something wrong when Magnus didn't react, but Magnus' lips chased Alec's when the Shadowhunter tried to move away. They both opened their eyes but were soon kissing passionately, oblivious to the horror on Maryse's face. When they had eventually stopped Alec gasped - he had just had his front kiss.
"You never cease to amaze me Alec," Magnus said lovingly, smiling.
"What did I just do," Alec half whispered half panted. Magnus on the other hand seemed unfazed. Maryse waited until she was sure her son was looking to storm off and she was closely followed by Robert. Isabelle was elated. "I'm so proud of you!" she exclaimed. Alec started to wonder if he had made the right decision , but after looking at the man by his side he was certain he couldn't have possibly made the wrong one.
