Chapter One

Synyra

Jake awoke early. I could tell by the sound of footsteps upstairs. I groaned and rolled over. On any normal day, Jake wouldn’t be awake until sometime after noon.  So what would be so important to cause him to wake so early?

My bedroom door swung open, sending in cold air around the room. I sat up and screamed. Only to see Jake standing there. The corners of his mouth twisted into a smirk. His arms crossed.

“Jake…I was dreaming.” I muttered, laying back down and pulling the pillows up and over my head. I heard Jake laugh, and suddenly the sheets were torn away from my body.

“Come on, kiddo. Lets go.” Jake clapped three times. Meaning it was an order. Since he was the alpha, I had to follow.

I groaned again and swung my legs over the side of the bed. My palms met my eyes and I rubbed them lightly. Followed by a yawn.

“Oh, come on.” Jake said impatiently. “If you don’t hurry you’re going to miss the whole reason I got you up.”

There was a reason? I sighed and stood up. My legs shaking underneath me. I yawned again and shuffled off towards the bathroom.

After a shower, and brushing my teeth, I wasn’t so tired anymore. I as more awake than ever.

“Synyra, are you done yet?” I heard Jake yell from downstairs. We lived in a three-story house. Where all members of our pack could live together. We all chipped in on rent. Some of the guys had their own rooms, and some of them had to share a room.

I was one of the lucky ones. All of the oldest members got their own room. Taylor, Sam and I had rooms on the second floor. Emma, Gharrick, Jade and Jackonas got rooms on the first floor, and Jake, Isabella, (Which we all called Izzy) Ahiga, and Ohanzee were all on the first floor.

Jake, Gharrick, Emma and I were all siblings, but I was added to the pack before either of them. Taylor and Izzy were brother and sister. And Ahiga and Ohanzee were brothers.

Jade, on the other hand, he was alone. In fact, he never even really  had his own name. We just called him Jade because he had the jade-colored eyes.

There weren’t many females in the pack, however. Unless we had the ability to aid in battle. (So then what was the point of Emma?) Our grandfather always wanted at least one pack that would be all male. His hopes for our pack. Until he realized the power I put behind my attacks, and my cat-like abilities.

“Synyra, come on!” Jake yelled again. I had just finished lacing my shoes as I heard his heavy footsteps pounding on the stairs. Jake liked to rush people. He was always the first one ready, and he thought everyone else had that magic ability to shower in thirty seconds.

I sighed and started my way down the stairs, meeting him about half-way down the stairwell.

“Oh…” was all I heard.

“You gonna move?”

We must’ve been standing there staring at each other for at least ten minutes before he spun around on his heels, and started his way down. “So what’s this about a surprise?” I asked, watching the stairs as I took each step. I was clumsy while in my human form. One wrong move and I’d be tumbling down stairs, hills, or anything elevated. Or at least it felt that way.

“Um…Well I can’t exactly tell you.” Jake said, shrugging. “I’ll just say that it has to do with that story I told you when you were little.”
