Chapter Four

“So, you a first timer?” Davie asked after a long, awkward silence. I continuously ran my fingers along the smooth surface of the table. Avoiding that piercing gaze that knocked all breath out of me. It must’ve been some sort of spell that he cast on me.

“Yeah, my brother brought me here…” I whispered, keeping my eyes on the table.

“You do know he’s a member of the royal family, right?” I glanced up. His pale face had a slight tint to it. Another thing you didn’t notice in vampires. He flashed a dazzling smile towards me. I sighed.

“Yeah, I’m well aware of that. And so am I.” I crossed my arms and dropped my gaze back down to the polished surface of the table. How could they be so clean if everything else was so dirty?

“So, if I’m your escort, does that mean we have to be cooped up here in this bar all night long?” he asked, standing up and stretching his arms above his head. I sighed and stood up with him.

“I know since you’re the princess, you expect me to carry you out, right?” I heard him chuckle to himself as he walked ahead of me. How could Jake expect me to get along with this guy?

“Okay, now. I hope you know how to get on a dragon, because-”

“A dragon?!” I yelled. “Oh no…oh hell no!” I paced back and forth in front of him. Riding a dragon? Again? Wasn’t I scared enough the first time?

An arm reached over and I felt something clasp around my fingers. Suddenly I was yanked forward, and jerked out the door.

“No, no!” I squealed, trying to resist. I dug my heels into the floor, but even that wasn’t enough to stop him. He was stronger than me. Which was more than I could say for most people. I was being strung along as if I were a puppet on strings. And I didn’t like it at all.

“Okay, okay okay!” I shrieked, yanking my arm away. “You win, we’re getting on the dragon.”

Davie smirked. “I knew you couldn’t resist. Don’t freak out, you’ll be fine with me.”

Fine with a vampire? I’d rather die.

“I’m not going anywhere with you, am I?”

I looked up. Had he  just asked me a question? I blinked a few times. “What?”

Davie sighed. “You’re a newcomer. You don’t know my reputation. That’s good. And I said, I’m not going anywhere with you, am I?”

Reputation? I’m supposed to be escorted by someone who has a bad reputation.

“Not bad, terrible.” Davie said, as if he were reading my thoughts. Was he a mind-reader? If he was I couldn’t be safe with him.

“No, I’m not a mind-reader, it just your eyes tell everything.” I shuddered. How many times had I been told that? Been told that my eyes played like a movie screen.

“You need to fix that.” He said, leaning down in front of me. He was only a few inches taller, but I felt like a little kid again.

“Fix what?” I snapped. Davie jumped back and rocked on his heels.

“Alright…um…on you go.” he clutched my waist and lifted me off of the ground. I dug my nails into the crevices of the scales and climbed the rest of the way up.

“And, I meant you need to fix that anger issue.” Davie said, struggling to climb up on board. “I mean, if you don’t learn how to hide your emotions here, you’re going to be very vulnerable.”
