The Art Of Being Brave (Carl)

Having a devastatingly handsome guy as your best friend is probably the hardest thing in the world. Especially when you live in the same house together, and you're around each other twenty four seven.
When you two had first met at the prison, you didn't think he liked you. If you're being honest, you actually thought he hated you. He would avoid you every time you tried to strike up a conversation with him, only saying a few words before he would just walk away.
Eventually you got him to open up to you, and he admitted that he was just nervous about being around a girl his age. He hadn't had very many experiences with girls since the outbreak began. This turned into a beautiful friendship between you two, and now you're staying together in the same house in Alexandria.
You know he has feelings for you, or at least he used to (there was an incident when you first arrived in Alexandria involving alcohol in which he admitted his feelings... yeah), but lately you weren't sure. He's been spending more and more time with Enid, and you're starting to think he has feelings for her. You're somewhat jealous, you'll admit- you like Carl a lot, and you want him for yourself. But, of course, you're too afraid to tell him how you feel. Which only makes you more frustrated, because you desperately want Carl. In more ways than one.
Sighing, you start to finish up your work. You were helping Maggie out with the garden, since you promised her yesterday that you would, but you're ready to go home. You've been at this all day.
"What's on your mind? You've been staring into space for like three minutes." Maggie frowns.
"Nothing." You shake your head. You haven't told anyone about your feelings for Carl, not even Maggie, who has sort of become like your older sister.
"Alright. But you know you can talk to me."
"Okay..." You say. "Can I just give you a scenario?"
"Sure."
"I like this guy, right. But I'm letting my fears get to me, I'm so scared to tell him how I feel. Even when he drunkenly admitted his feelings for a few months ago. I'm just afraid that he doesn't like me anymore." You ramble. "He's been spending a lot of time with another girl."
"Okay, this 'scenario' sounds a lot like you and Carl." Maggie laughs.
"You caught me." You admit. "I just don't know what to do. I mean, I get why he likes her. Enid's pretty and she's brave, braver than I am."
"Hey, you're pretty, too. Don't beat yourself down." Maggie frowns. "And if you're so worried about not being brave, then just do it. Face your fears, Y/N."
"Okay." You nod your head. "Actually, do you mind finishing up for me? I'm going to find Carl."
You had an idea in your head. Probably not the smartest of ideas, and one that might even get you killed, but an idea.
Maggie agrees to finish (you guys were almost done, anyways) and you walk over to find Carl. He's not very far, just a couple of houses down. He's messing with his gun, making sure it's all ready for the run that Rick was finally letting him go on tomorrow.
You bite your lip, watching him as he reloads his gun. Your idea is to go over the gates with him. You want to ask him to sneak out with you, to go over the fence like Enid does. To do the things you've always wanted to do but you were too scared.
You're tired of being scared of things. Fear isn't getting you anywhere in this world- especially not with Carl. Your feelings for him are only growing by the minute. Even when you know that he might like you back. You've just always been too afraid to make the first move.
"Hey, Carl?" You say quietly. He stops messing with his gun and looks at you, a concerned look on his face. Probably because your voice was so shaky with nervousness.
"What's wrong?" He scrunches his eyebrows.
"Nothing, nothing." You say quickly. "I just... I want to be more adventurous. I want to get over my fears. I want you to sneak over the gates with me tonight."
"Y/N, if we caught, we're going to be in so much shit..." He trails off, probably thinking of all the trouble he'd be in with Rick if he found out.
"Enid does it all the time, and she's always fine. Please. I just want to get out of here for one night." You beg. You know you won't do it without him- especially since part of your plan to get over your fears included finally telling him how you felt. But you'll leave that part a surprise for later.
"God, fine, only because you're my best friend and I know you won't leave me alone until I say yes." Carl rolls his eyes, but a smile creeps on to his face.
"Ah! Thank you!" You exclaim, probably a bit too excitedly. You walk over to him and wrap your arms around him, nuzzling your head into his neck. He immediately wraps his arm around your waist, pulling you as close as possible. The hug lingered on longer than what would typically be considered friendly, but neither of you made an attempt to make it otherwise. Your hugs were always like this.
You can feel his breath hitch when your lips accidentally brush against his jaw when you pull away. You can see his cheeks turning slightly red, and you turn your face away from his, hiding your own blush.
"So, uh, tonight then?" Carl is the first to speak, although it comes out awkwardly.
"Yeah. Just come to my room once Rick and Michonne go to sleep, we can leave from my window. Yours is too far off the ground."
"What are we even going to do?"
"I don't know." You shrug. "Walk around. God, that's the most boring date in the world, but I don't know what else to do."
"It's a date now, is it?" Carl raises his eyebrows, a smirk plastered on his face.
"Um..."
"It can be one." Carl says quickly, making your smile return to your face. "If that's what you were wanting."
"Yeah. That's what I'm wanting." You smiles at him. Your heart starts to race, and the blush is returning to your face. You feel like that's all you've been able to do since you found Carl out here a few minutes ago- blush like mad.
He slides his fingers in between yours, your hands now interlocked. You two walk hand in hand back to your shared house, not caring about the looks you were getting from people passing by you two in the street. You just can't believe you're actually holding hands with Carl.
You're greeted by a confused Rick when you two enter the house, his eyebrow quirked up.
"Hey, Y/N. Carl." His eyes glance down to you two holding hands. Rick had always thought there was something going on there, but he never questioned either of you two about it. A part of him also didn't want to believe that his precious Y/N was growing up. He recused you from Woodbury back in the prison days, and he had grown to think of you as a daughter. You're seventeen, the same age as Carl, so he knows that you're by no means a "little girl" anymore. It just comes as a shock to him that you're actually getting older. But, if you're going to be dating anyone, Rick would most definitely want it to be Carl.
"Hey, Rick." You free your hand from Carl's, waving at him.
"Hi, dad." Carl mumbles. You know they don't have the best relationship, they're not the closest of father and sons, but they love each other nonetheless.
"I'm going to bed, actually. Today's run was exhausting. See you guys tomorrow?" You fake a yawn.
"Me too, actually. I'll see y'all tomorrow." Rick says. "And Carl?"
"Hm?" Carl was already halfway headed up the stairs.
"Stay in your own room tonight."
The both of you get red in the face. You never knew that Rick knew that you'd go sleep in Carl's room, or vice versa. You struggle with nightmares (mostly of your parents deaths), and the only thing that can calm you down is being comforted by someone. So most nights, around two or three in the morning, you'd sneak into his room and fall asleep. He'd do the same on the nights he had nightmares (his were about his mom dying.)
"What do you mean, Dad?" Carl tried to play the innocent act, looking at you for help. You just shrugged your shoulders and let him deal with it.
"I hear you two talkin' in the middle of the night, I ain't dumb. I was okay with it before, but seeing as you two are, how do I put this... A little friendlier now, I don't think it's a good idea."
"Rick, you know we're just friends. Nothing else." You say. You can see Carl's face drop a tiny bit, and you desperately want to take it back. But your relationship hadn't necessarily been defined yet, but you certainly don't want to jump to conclusions.
"Hm... Okay." Rick shakes his head, a smirk growing on his face. "Well, goodnight you two."
"Night!" You both rush out.
You can feel Carl's stare while you walk past him to your room. It felt like holes were being drilled through your back, and you're not exactly sure if it's a good thing or not. You wouldn't mind him checking you out at any other given time, but when you mentioned to Rick that you were just friends, he looked hurt, and quite frankly pissed.
You shut your door quietly behind you, crawling into your bed and underneath the covers. You give it maybe thirty minutes for Rick to fall asleep, but you'll wait an hour or so until you go into Carl's room.
The next hour is spent making sure your knife is in its place and your gun is loaded. If anything goes wrong out there, you need to defend yourself. Walkers may not seem so dangerous when you're inside Alexandria and safe, but once you leave those walls, it's a whole different game.
You also take this time to make yourself look a little decent. You put on nice clothing (which just consisted of not dirty skinny jeans and a tank top- what a time to be alive) and you brushed your hair into a ponytail. Carl is always telling you how much he likes your hair in ponytails.
You're finishing putting on your boots when you hear a soft knocking on your door. You tip toe over to it, opening it quietly. Carl is standing in the doorway, his hand reaching out to yours.
"Are you ready?" He whispers.
"I'm a little nervous." You admit. "I've never done anything like this before."
"There's a first for everything, right?" There's a look on his face you've never seen before. It's a mixture of excitedness, nervousness, and dare you say, lust.
"Yeah, I guess you're right." You can't hide the smile that grows on your face.
Carl steps into your room and closes it quietly behind him. You walk over to your window, sliding it up until the space is big enough for the two of you to squeeze through. You got out first, thankful that your room was on the first floor, unlike Carl's. Once you're on the ground, Carl follows in your footsteps and closes the window behind him.
"Follow me to the ladder." Carl says in a normal tone, not needing to whisper anymore. He laces his hand in yours and leads you over to the wall and to where Enid always sneaks out from.
Once again, you're first up the ladder (Carl insisted, although you just think it's because he wanted to look at your ass as you walked up) and you jump down the other side.
"This feels so weird." You say once Carl gets to the other side of the wall as well. You look out into the distance, only seeing trees and a road.
"It's nice." Carl comments. "Here, follow me."
"Uh, okay?" You respond, and follow Carl.
He takes you to a small clearing about a mile away, just far enough from Alexandria that you couldn't see the walls anymore. Like you mentioned before, it's small- just barely enough for a few people to sit in, but the view of the night sky above is beautiful. It gives you a direct view of the moon and the stars.
"How did you know of this place?" You ask him.
"This isn't my first time sneaking out. I come here sometimes when I'm pissed to clear my head. Haven't in a while, though."
"Ah, and here you had me thinking that this was your first time." You tease. He sits down in the clearing, and you do the same. You rest your head on his shoulder, and you can tell that his heart beat started getting faster.
"So, this is probably childish, but will you stargaze with me?" You ask Carl. You used to stargaze with your parents all the time before the outbreak. You would sit on the roof of your house and they'd teach you all the constellations. You can't remember any of them now, but its special memories and you haven't been able to do this since you were a kid.
"Yeah, I will. Its not childish. I don't know any constellations, though." He grins. He lays down onto his back, and brings you down with him. You're cuddled up into his side, his arm around you, and you're both looking up at the sky.
"You know what I like the most about looking at the stars? How constant it is. The world is shit, but the stars will always be the same. It's lame, but it keeps me positive." You admit. "It's comforting."
"I've never thought about it that way. You're kind of like my stars."
"What?" You turn your head to face him, your faces no way closer than you had anticipated. Your lips are almost touching, and you so badly want his lips on yours.
"Well, just the way you described them. It's kind of how I would describe you. You're... You're you. I love you." He glances down at your lips. He's told you before that he loves you, but this time, it seems different. It doesn't seem like the friendly "I love you" like he's told you before.
"I think that's the sweetest thing anyone's ever told me." You lean in closer to him, your foreheads now touching. Your heart is racing, but in the best way possible. "I love you too."
And then it happened. He brought his lips to yours, softly pressing them on yours. It was a slow and gentle kiss, the caress of his lips softer than you could have ever imagined.
"I thought you liked Ron." Carl pulls away from you, his breath heavy.
"Ron? Really?" You make a face. "I thought you liked Enid."
"Nope. Just you, Y/N. It's always been you."
You press your lips back onto his, the butterflies in your stomach returning. You move your leg to where it's now slung over Carl's side, and he grabs your hips and pulls you on top of him. The kiss now getting hungrier, his tongue exploring your mouth, and you let out a low moan. He slips his hand underneath your shirt, his hands all over your bare back as you started to grind yourself onto him.
"Carl..." You pull away, biting your lip. You can feel how obviously turned on he was, and if you're being truthful, you were turned on too. You've kissed other guys before, but nothing like this.
"I'm sorry, I couldn't help myself." He laughs, but neither of you two made an effort to move from your position. "I got carried away."
"Carl, I want... I want to do it." You say quickly, even surprising yourself.
"You do?" His eyes grow wide.
"Yeah." You bite your lip. "Haven't you ever thought about it?"
"Y/N, I think about it all the time." He admits.
"Good, because I do, too."
Carl kisses you again, this time it was even hungrier than before. He rolls you over to where he is on top of you now, and he begins to unzip your jeans, sliding them down your legs along with your panties. You take off your shirt, revealing your breasts as you had no bra on.
"You're so... Fuck, Y/N. You're so hot." Carl breathes out, rubbing circles on your clit. This emits a moan from you, and you grasp his shoulders, needing to hold on to something. He puts a finger inside of you, and the moan you let out was almost pornographic.
"I guess I'm doing this right?" Carl asks.
"Yes, don't stop."
He puts a second finger in, and picks up his pace. You're almost on the verge of an orgasm when he suddenly pulls away.
"Carl," You whine, desperate for the release.
"Shh, I want to try something." He whispers, and he brings his head down between your thighs. He begins to lick your slit, putting his fingers back inside of you. The sensation was unlike anything you've ever experienced, and it doesn't take you long to orgasm.
"Carl," You let out a long moan as you cum.
"That was amazing." Carl says, getting up from between your thighs. You get up and begin to unbuckle his pants, taking off his jeans and only leaving him in his boxers.
You kiss him again as you palm him through his boxers, making him get even more hard, which you didn't even think was possible at this point.
"Y/N, if you keep palming me I'm not going to last." Carl admits sheepishly. "I don't... I don't have much experience."
"Me neither, it's fine." You say, and Carl removes his boxers. He positions himself above you, lining himself with your entrance.
He enters himself slowly, and much to your surprise, it doesn't hurt all too bad. It's a bit uncomfortable, but the feeling itself isn't horrible.
"Is this okay?" Carl asks once he gets all the way inside of you, hoping that he doesn't hurt you.
"You can move." You tell him, and he begins to move slowly. After about thirty seconds, it starts to feel pleasurable, the slight pain from before gone. The only sounds in the air are both of your guy's moans and the sounds of skin against skin.
Carl begins to move faster, and you can tell his orgasm is nearing. You can feel the familiarity of yours beginning, and you open your legs up wider so he can get deeper.
"I'm close." You pant, and with that, your walls clench around Carl, your orgasm hitting you like a ton of bricks.
"Fuck, Carl," You ride out your high. This brings Carl to his edge, and he pulls out of you, cumming on your stomach. Carl collapses beside you, both of you panting and out of breathe.
"I can't believe we actually just did that." Carl laughs, and kisses your forehead. "We're going to do that again, right?"
"Yeah, we are." You smile at him, pecking his lips. "I love you."
"I love you, too."
