Anne's P.O.VI awoke to a sharp jab in my back and reached around to find a small book behind me. I was momentarily confused about why the dictionary that Gilbert had given me previously was there than I remembered, Today was the spelling bee. I had spent most of the night studying and must have fallen asleep.
I sprang up and went over to the window sliding it open and looking out upon the elegant cherry tree outside
"Oh beautiful splendid cherry blossom I cannot wait for your blossoms to bloom like small fragments of flickering pink light flowing from your slender branches in the breeze" —"Anne!" I heard Marilla yell from downstairs "Hurry up child before you are late for school!"
I ceased talking to the beautiful tree and pulled on my new dress that I had sewn. It was the first dress I had sewn and even without lovely puffed sleeves it was a beautiful grey with a little pattern on it. It was simple but I loved it nonetheless. I laced up my boots and fixed my braids, my hair had grown down to just below my collar bones since I had to cut it after that horrid accident with the dye.
Grabbing the dictionary I raced down the stairs and walked into the kitchen.
"Ah there you are child hurry up and eat" said Marilla.
"What in the heavens are you doing Anne." Marilla incredulously asked me.
I was cramming toast into my mouth at that moment. I quickly wiped my mouth on my sleeve and jumped up from the table.
"Oh and Anne I have to- Marilla was cut off by the young girl.
"I'm terribly sorry Marilla I must go, say goodbye to Matthew for me." I said kissing my adoptive mother on the cheek. Oh how blessed I was to have been taken in by these positively incredible people.
Marilla merely shook her head as a strand of her graying hair escaped the woman's tight bun.
I'm getting much too old for this". Marilla said chuckling to herself.
"Well, well how do you do Miss Shirley." I knew that voice anywhere, I turned around and saw none other than Gilbert Blythe was right behind me a leaf from the many beautiful evergreen trees around us stuck in his jet black curls. But the strangest thing was I didn't happen to think he usually came this way to school it was as if he had come from green gables itself. I didn't believe he did thought I would have seen him although I had stopped to examine a particularly breathtaking tree."Better knowing I am going to beat you in the spelling bee today" I replied.
"Oh well competitive are we now" The boy replied. A small smirk creeping up on his face.
I felt my cheeks heat up and narrowed my eyes at him.
"I'll have you know Blythe" I said back to him "I do plan on beating you"
Then I saw Diana coming from the other path and sped up.
"Leaving me now are we" I hear Gilbert say.
I roll my eyes and shoot back "It's Shirley-Cuthbert by the way." I notice Diana watching this exchange with a twinkle in her eye.
After linking arms with my bosom friend Diana leans towards me and whispers "Hm what was that about."
"Absolutely nothing" I reply.
"Yea sure" Diana says giggling.
I shoot her a look and see that we have arrived at the Avonlea schoolhouse. Then none other than Gilbert whom I had forgotten was walking right behind us Darts in front of us and hold the door.
"Why thank you Gilbert what a pleasure" Diana says in such a friendly way. When she sees I have been glaring at him she nudges me.
"Anne" Diana mumbles.
I can't believe this. Who does he think he is we were perfectly capable of opening the door ourselves, but as to not let Diana down I force out a quiet "Thanks".
Gilbert smiles Ugh why does he have to do that to me "The pleasure is all mine."
What am I going to do.
