7 years later
It had been seven years since my mom and older brother left America. I visited them a few times when I was in middle school but those visits stopped a while ago. I called them often but they were busy with their own lives.
I understood that and only called when I extremely missed them. Unfortunately, there wasn't a moment where I didn't miss them. I decided to be a good student and focus on my future despite their absence in my life. I received good grades but I wasn't very social, getting into college wasn't the hardest part. It was paying for college. I had managed to provide money here and there from my part time job.
My dad still had his office job but he often slacked off and got fired when I was first accepted into college. He mowed lawns for money now. Sometimes his friends would loan him money, but he never got to paying them back. It became me trying to earn money to pay for my tuition and life on top of trying to help him.
Somehow I convinced my dad to get back on his feet to get a job somewhere just so that there would be two sources of money. He was willing to do that, but he still wasn't very good at it. Our money was often spent on his alcohol, so I hid some away at the bank to pay for basic household needs and food.
Mom often sent money to me and I saved it for college tuition. It helped a lot. Luckily I applied for a lot of scholarships thanks to Namjoon's advice. College was easier on me with the help from scholarships.
He called me a lot throughout highschool to make sure I would remember the important deadlines. He also kept me updated on his life in Korea and even his new roommates.
He lived with 6 other guys, most were his childhood friends.
Kim Seokjin, his best friend from our Grandma's old neighborhood.
Min Yoongi, was someone he encountered during his part time job at a music store.
Jung Hoseok, his childhood friend and fellow high school classmate.
Park Jimin, a boy he encountered while tutoring.
Kim Taehyung, the excited troublemaker he met while working part-time at the gas station.
and, Jeon Jungkook, the son of our mom's friend, and my childhood friend. I was acquainted with a few of the others as well.
They were noisy guys but they were fun to talk to sometimes. Namjoon used to describe them as loud and chaotic. But they were much more than loud and chaotic, they were literally so annoying at times but it made me laugh.
The youngest of their group were around my age so I kept in touch with them the most. Jimin, Taehyung, and Jungkook.
The Maknae line if I use the label Jin calls them.
I chuckled to myself remembering a time when our kakao talk chats exploded with memes sent by Taehyung. He never failed to make me laugh.
I wasn't as close to the others but I still talked to them from time to time. Back in middle school I hung around Jungkook whenever I visited. He was really quiet back then, and even now he was still pretty quiet.
Maybe if I went to Korea to visit them we'd have a blast now that we're all adults.
Today was the last day of the semester and then I'd have my break for the summer. My classes were over so I headed to my part time job at a small restaurant in the shopping plaza near my house.
As I drove towards the plaza, my phone rang. I pulled over into a parking lot and saw that it was my dad.
How strange, I thought. He never calls unless he needs me to buy booze when he's too lazy to go buy it himself.
"Hello?"
"Miso, come home now," He sounded tired.
"Appa? Are you okay? I can't come home now, I need to head to my shift at the restaurant. I'll try to get home as soon as possible," I never liked to make him angry, but I was usually never around him when he came home.
I was too busy studying and working part time to really talk to him.
"Just come home now," He said.
"Okay, Okay, I will go home. I just need to call my boss and tell her I can't go to work today," I sighed. "Dad, did you drink today?"
"No! I haven't been drinking at all today. Come home now and don't take too long." He yelled.
"Why?"
"Because your Mom and Namjoon are here,"
"What?"
"They're waiting for you," He said. "So hurry up and come home."
"Oh...okay," I said hanging up.
They're here? I thought. They had never visited before. How come Namjoon didn't tell me?
I quickly dialed my boss's number and told her I couldn't make it into work today. I drove out of the parking lot and quickly drove to my house.
As I parked, I saw a tall man with short purple hair standing in the yard staring up at the house. I opened the door and called out to him.
"Oppa?" He turned and I could see his face. It was my brother alright. He smiled and I saw his dimples. Yup, that's my brother.
Author's Note:
I've decided to work hard on editing this story. I made it almost three years ago which still doesn't feel real to me. I hope you still enjoy it though! Have a great day/night!
