Lauren's POV

I was driving to the middle school, trying to call Zayn for the fifth time. I really can't believe he begged to pick Nic up for school then just never bothered to show up. Know what? No. I can believe it because it was such a Zayn thing to do. He was so impossible sometimes.

I called Zayn again as I turned the corner, heading towards Nic's school.

"Go for Zayn," Zayn's British accented voice rang through the phone. I heard a giggle in the background and I rolled my eyes.

"What the hell, Zayn?" I snapped.

"Lauren! Hey! What's up, babe?"

"Shut up, Zayn. Don't babe me. You forgot our son at school? What the hell? You made such a big deal about wanting to spend time with him then you just forget about him? Do you know how upset he is?"

"Shit, Laur. I forgot that was today. I had an interview with the band and lunch with a friend and I just lost track," Zayn said and I rolled my eyes.

"Don't play me, Zayn Malik. I hear the girls in the background. I really can't believe you left your son to be with some cheap $5 hookers," I snapped again. Normally, I wouldn't care what Zayn did with his life. Whatever. But when he hurts Nic by ditching him to do some stupid bullshit, well I lose it. Call me an overprotective mom, I don't care. My son is my everything and I hate seeing him upset.

"Actually they were free," Zayn said and I rolled my eyes yet again, "Listen, just tell Nic I'll see him tonight. I promise this time, okay?"

"You said the same thing last time, Zayn. You're hurting my son. He can't take much more of this. You're really missing out here. Soon he won't want to spend any time with you. Don't bother coming tonight. If he wants to see you, I'll see about tomorrow but to be honest you really pissed me off and if I see you tonight I may just kill you. Get your shit together, Zayn," I said and hung up on my ex. I pulled in front of the school, parking the car.

I saw my son sitting on the porch steps with a really beautiful woman, with brown hair and brown eyes, who was covered in tattoo. I frowned slightly as I opened the car door and climbed out of my car.

"Mom!" Nic shouted when he saw me as I walked around the front of my car. He jumped up and ran towards me, the woman stood up and followed slowly as Nic jumped at me, wrapping his arms around my waist.

"Hey, nugget, how you doing? I'm so sorry for running late," I said as I knelt down to look my son in the eyes, grabbing either side of his face, "I didn't think your father would just leave you like that."

"It's fine! Miss C stayed with me until you came," Nic said as he motioned back towards the woman, who stood there awkwardly with her hands in the pockets of her jeans, "She's my music teacher."

Woah. A music teacher. A teacher covered in tattoos. Guess she must be really good then. I looked at her and stood up slowly

"Thank you so much for staying with my son, Miss C. I hope he wasn't a bother," I said as I extended my hand to her. She smiled slightly as she reached out and took my hand in hers. Her hand was rough, her fingers rather calloused but also soft. Man...I wonder how good those hands would feel against my-woah there Lauren. Slow down. This is your son's teacher.

"No problem. He wasn't a bother at all. He's probably one of the most well behaved children I've ever had the pleasure of teaching. And please call me Camila. Only my students have to call me Miss C," she said as she flashed my son a smile and winked. Nic grinned brightly at her, "Well I'm gonna have to be off now. I'm late for a dinner engagement and my girlfriend's gonna have my head if I don't show up."

Girlfriend. Ah of course someone as beautiful as this woman has a girlfriend.

"It was nice meeting you and thank you again for sitting with Nic," I said as I looked at the music teacher. She flashed me a smile and I almost melted.

"No problem, really. You're doing well with him. He's a great kid," she smiled at me before looking at Nic, "See you tomorrow, kid. Bright and early, right?"

"Right! See ya tomorrow, Miss Cabello," Nic said with a grin and I turned him around to lead him to my car. He climbed into the backseat while I walked around to the driver's side.

Camila stood where she was and waved slightly, I waved back before climbing into the car. I started the car and looked back at Nic who was still waving to Camila. I smiled softly, happy to know he was no longer upset. I pulled off out of the parking lot and drove silently.

"I see you had a good day at school today," I said as I looked up into the rearview mirror at my son.

"Yeah, it was awesome. I made some new friends. I love music class because Miss Cabello is an awesome teacher. And I had a good day in Gym class because I kicked butt in kick ball," Nic said with a bright smile.

"I'm glad you had a good day. I'm sorry about your father," I said and I saw Nic shrug.

"It's fine. I knew it would happen. Miss Cabello kept me company while I waited for her. She's really nice, isn't she, mom?" Nic asked.

"She is really nice," I nodded my head as I returned my eyes to the road.

"And pretty, huh?"

"What are you getting at?" I asked, raising my eyebrows. I always figured my son would get his first crush in middle school, I just never figured it would be on his teacher. I have no idea how I'd explain the problem with that to him.

"I'm just saying," Nic said and I looked up into the rearview mirror just in time to see him shrug, "She's gay, ya know? She likes girls just like you mom. I think that's cool."

"I'm bisexual, Nicky," I said and Nic nodded his head.

"Yeah I know. I'm just saying. Like you both like girls."

I frowned slightly, not understanding what my son was trying to say. I decided to just give up and looked back at the road.

"Mom. Are we still baking tonight?"

"I promised you, didn't I?" I said.

"Cool," Nic said and he was quiet for a moment before speaking up, "Can we bake a cupcake for Miss C? To thank her?"

"That what you want to do?" I asked.

"Yeah."

"Okay. We can."

"Cool," the rest of the car ride was silent.
