Lauren's POV

"Mom! We're out of milk!"

I walked into the kitchen, pulling my hair up into a high ponytail as I looked at my son, who was looking in the fridge high and low for the milk.

"We are? I could have sworn I just bought some," I said as I walked over to the fridge, causing Nic to step aside so I could peer in.

"We're also out of sugar. How are we supposed make Miss C those cupcakes if we have no milk or sugar," Nic whined and I giggled, rolling my eyes at my ever dramatic son.

"We can make them tomorrow, Nicky," I said as I reached down to ruffle my son's hair.

"But then I'd have to wait to give them to her until Monday and they won't be as good then," Nic said as he looked up at me with a frown.

"Nic," I started but my son looked up at me with puppy dog eyes and I sighed, rolling my eyes slightly, "Fine. Get your coat and shoes. Let's go to the store."

"Yes!" Nic ran out of the kitchen and into the hall. I really needed to learn how to say no to him.

I sighed as I followed him out into the hall, grabbing my jacket off the coat rack and pulling it on whilst simultaneously slipping my feet into my Uggs. I looked at Nic as he slipped his jacket on, "Ready?"

"Ready!" he grinned up at me and I smiled back, grabbing the keys to my car. I opened the door for my son and he ran out the house towards my car. I shut the door behind me and locked it. I followed my son calmly, with a small smile on my face as I shook my head in amusement.

I unlocked the door to the car and Nic immediately slipped into the backseat. I walked around to the driver's seat and climbed into the car. I started the car and put it in drive.

"Mom, seatbelt," Nic said and I looked up at him through the rear view mirror.

"I'm supposed to remind you of that," I teased playfully whilst buckling my seat belt. I pulled the car out of the driveway and down the street. I drove silently, keeping my eyes on the road.

"Miss C is really gonna like your cupcakes, Mom," Nic said, "They're the second best thing in the world."

"Second best? What's the first?" I raised my eyebrows as I drove, keeping my eyes on the road.

"You, duh," Nic said and I smiled at that, "I really think if Miss C got to know you, she'd love you."

"What's up with you bringing your music teacher up in all topics of conversation today?"

"She's just really cool, Mom. She's the coolest teacher I've ever had at least. She knows all my favorite artists, she's funny, she has all those tattoos, she's gay, she's pretty, she's nice, did I mention she was gay?"

"Yeah three times today now," I giggled as I looked up at my son through the rear view mirror, "I still don't see what you're trying to get at with all of this."

"Mom," Nic rolled his eyes, "She's gay. You're bisexual. I totally saw the way she was looking at you. There was definite heart eyes in there. She was checking you out, Mom."

"Nic, honey, I know you want to help but trying to set me up with your music teacher, who is taken by the way in case you didn't hear her mention she had a girlfriend, is definitely not the way to help mommy get a girlfriend."

"I know," Nic sighed as he slumped in his seat, "I just want you to be happy, Mom. You spent most of your life worrying about me and now you don't have a life of your own. I'm older now, I just want you to have to worry less and be more happy and carefree. Like how Uncle Chris, Auntie Ally, and Aunt Normani used to say you were."

"I have a life," I defended, "My life is you and the bakery."

"I mean a love life. Someone you can kiss and hug and be in love with. Someone like from our show. I want you to find that true love," Nic said.

"And you think I'll find that with your teacher?" I asked, raising my eyebrows yet again. Nic shrugged again. I sighed as I looked forward, pulling into the parking lot of the grocery store. I parked the car and turned around in my seat to look at Nic, "Listen, bud, I am happy. I may not be in love and I may barely go out but I am completely happy spending time with you. I've always told you, you were the only love I need in my life and I wasn't lying. If and when the time comes for me to meet somebody and fall in love, I promise you, you will be the first to know, okay?"

Nic nodded his head slowly as he looked at me with a small smile. I raised my eyebrows as I squinted my eyes at him playfully and he laughed a little as his smile grew, "Yeah, okay."

I grinned, "Great! Now! Lets go buy stuff to make that cake!"
