Lauren's POV
"So, where are we going?" I asked Camila as I turned in my seat to look at the beautiful brunette woman. She was awkwardly tapping her thumbs against her steering wheel, but she had stopped when I spoke. She turned her head to glance at me."Oh, uh, I know this amazing diner that makes the best burgers in the city," she said with a slight grin, "But uh, if you want to go somewhere else-," she reached up to run her fingers through her hair.
"No, that's okay. Sounds good," I laughed softly. I reached out to take Camila's hand in my own, stopping her from tapping her fingers against the wheel again, "Relax, Camz."
"What are you talking about? I am relax," she scoffed as she rolled her eyes playfully, "I'm super chill. Hella calm. Perfectly calm," she rambled on and I laughed, rolling my eyes.
"Sure, you're super calm," I teased lightly, "It's just lunch, Camila. It's okay."
She took a deep breath before letting it out in a sigh, "Yeah, you're right. I'm sorry. I just...it's been a while," she said as she glanced over at me.
"I get it. But it'll be okay. It's just hanging out, right?" I questioned as I let her hand go.
"Yeah, we're just hanging out," she said with a slight grin as she looked at the road. I could have sworn I heard her say, "For now," but I figured it was just my ears playing tricks on me.
It was silent the rest of the car ride, but it didn't take long for Camila to pull her car into the parking lot of a diner that looked like it came right out of a 1960s movie. It was so retro and old school. I liked it. Camila climbed out of the car and walked around to open the door for me. I climbed out and smiled thankfully at her.
"This place looks so cool," I said as I looked up at the building, and Camila grinned at me.
"I know, right?" Camila took my hand and tugged me towards the entrance, "My friends and I used to come here everyday after school. We come here every two weeks or so," Camila said as she opened the door then stepped aside to allow me to walk in.
"Mila! Sweetpea! It's so good to see you again!" Camila and I were soon approached by a older woman with brown hair with strands of gray in it, it was up in a messy bun. She wore an old school waitress outfit and roller skates as she skated over towards us. She wrapped Camila up into her arms, "What you doing here so early? Y'all not due round here until next week."
"This isn't the biweekly visit, Maria," Camila said as she stepped away from the woman to glance at me, "I'm taking my...Lauren out for lunch today."
"Your Lauren, huh?" Maria wiggled her eyebrows, "Well I'm glad to see you got rid of that other one. What was her name? Ariel? Arendelle? Aria?"
Camila rolled her eyes, "Arianna, Maria," she said simply.
"Right! That one, just horrible. So horrible. Now this one, such a beauty! Look at those eyes," Maria said as she looked at me before she gasped, "Oh! Where are my manners? I'm Maria! It's a pleasure to meet you, Darling."
"It's nice to meet you too, ma'am," I said as I extended my hand out to the one.
"Oh no, honey! We hug round here," she wrapped her arms around me in a hug before letting me go, "I hope my little Mila here treatin ya right."
"Maria," Camila whined, and I found myself smirking in amusement at the slight blush that took over the woman's features.
"What? I'm just making sure you treating ya girl properly," Maria said with an innocent shrug of her shoulders.
"Can we sit down now? Please," Camila groaned as she rolled her eyes. I laughed softly at the obvious embarrassment the middle school teacher was going through.
