Chapter 4

"S-she was your-" Ben stopped in his tracks just as I started to break down in tears. "Oh, baby come here."

Ben pulled me to himself and I let the tears I had held in for years. My head was on his chest and our legs entangled for what must've been hours. I fell asleep and probably would have stayed that way if it wasn't for Ben shaking me awake.

"Harper," he whispered. My eyes flew open and I sat up. I turned to look Ben in the eyes and relaxed a little. I leaned back into his chest and used my powers to pick up so water and toss it around.

"Harper-"

"Look Ben-"

We both stopped and stared at each other.

"Harper," Ben started, touching my cheek gently. "I didn't realize that thing with Avery was so close to home for you. I'm so sorry. I have dreams too, but I realize that part of being a good boyfriend... you kinda have to give up some stuff. You do it all the time, and I've never notices, I'm sorry.

"You know I would never pressure you to do something you don't to do, I love you, H. Trust me when I say that, I've never felt like that about anyone in my life but you. I should be more grateful, but I just take you love for granted. I love you so much Harper."

"I love you too," I smiled and Ben kissed my lips lightly. I grinned even wider.

"Are those mashed potatoes?" Ben asked pointing his fork at my plate. We had come back from out interesting outing and headed back to our barrack when the lunch announcement was made.

"You bet," I grinned knowing those were Ben's favorite.

"Can I have some?" he asked attempting to poke him fork into the gooey mess. I hit his fork him my own and tsked. "Get your own, kid."

"But I didn't see it," Ben whined joking. My heart nearly melted when he made a puppy dog face. I was about to give in when a loud voice interrupted.

"Attention Afters! Every soldier to their section barracks. Section leaders to the headquarters!" the loudspeaker blared. It was the exact same message that was delivered yesterday at lunch. I looked at Ben and this time, he didn't even try to hide the fear. I reached for his hand under the table and squeezed it. Ben gave me a small smile and blinked twice. That was our signal when we wanted to give each other a kiss but couldn't due to circumstances. I blinked back twice and watched and he rose and headed out of the cafeteria along with all the other section leaders. I grabbed Ben's half eaten tray along with mine and threw it in the trash.

This time Creeper didn't make any snide remarks and I don't think it was because of the talk she has with General Chung. We were all worried. It was rare for section leaders to go to the headquarters. So, the fact that they were going a second time means that something is really wrong. I paced the room until my legs were sore and achy. Finally, up to my top bunk and sat down surveying everyone else's behavior. Small Bones was biting his nail while his friends were all sitting with him on the floor. Pigtail was sitting on her bed (bottom bunk, I was on top, we share a set) staring at the wall and fiddling her thumbs. Creeper was creating fire, throwing it the air (if that's possible), and catching it again. Other Afters were leaning against the walls or gossiping about the situation. Finally, the voice on the loudspeaker spoke again...

"Attention Afters!" I climbed down the top bunk and stood facing the speaker in our barrack. Everyone else came up behind (or next) to me. "There has been a slight change pertaining to all barracks. The current section leaders you have will be replaced, due one leader committing an offense. Since none of the leaders stepped up to claim responsibility they have all been executed-"

I screamed. The building shook as my powers took over the best of me. I sank to my knees and yelled until my voice was dry. Even then, I continued to sob and the building continued to shake. No one did anything because they were just as shocked as me. The tears burned hot against my cold cheek. The door flung open and General Chung and some other higher ranking officers stepped in. I didn't care. I continued to do what I was doing (scream/cry/tear apart the building) as General Chung tried to shake me out of it.

"Ghost, ghost stop it!" I saw pure fear in his eyes. "Ghost, you're going to make this building cave in on itself and kill everyone."

"Give me back Terminator!" I shouted, raising all the bunk beds with my powers.

"I'm sorry, Ghost," General Chung looked at me, then I heard the sound of a gun being fired. It was a tranquilizer, I couldn't move anything. My vision swam.... then I passed out.
