KITAKAZE GA UMI ni deau bashoThe full moon's glow lit up the streets, puddles from the evening rain glistening as Y/N L/N walked by. Not a soul around; not a sound. Except for the soft chirps of the crickets, the quiet thumps of her footsteps and the person following her, and her voice as she sang the lullaby sung to her so many times in the past.
Kioko ni michita kawa ga nagareru
O nemuri yasurakani
Y/N gazed at the stars above, her hair gently swaying as she strolled through town. How beautiful they were, shining without a care in the world as they watched her. Comforted her in her dark times.
However, even they went away too.
Kawa no nakani sagashimono ga mitsukarukaraShe paused. Her stalker—the one that had been following her since the moment she stepped out—was getting closer, losing whatever fear they had in coming too close to her.
Good for them.
Y/N couldn't help the chuckle that erupted from her throat. Her stalker halted. "This isn't funny!" She could practically hear Mister Callaman's voice snap at her. He was always so uptight, so serious.
Y/N put a hand over her mouth, trying to suppress her laughter. But it was no use. The thought of his and his oh-so-precious wife's pissed off expressions were too funny. However, her laughter stopped immediately when she heard it.
Click, click, click.
She stiffened at the familiar chatter, listening. Where was it coming from?
Click, click, click.
The pat pat of its many legs hitting the pavement made the hairs on the back of her neck rise. She whirled to her left. It was coming from the alley, void of any moonlight. Despite the darkness, she could see it. It's long figure moving around in the alley with its stick legs.
She dared to walk toward it and that's when she saw the corpse of a woman. There was a giant hole in her chest, her heart missing. Now in the belly of the beast, her blood still dripping from its circular maw.
When Y/N first saw this creature, she was thirteen and was roaming the streets as a homeless child. She had just turned a corner when this thing jumped out, it's needle like teeth ready to tear her open. She ran, screaming, and no one bothered to help when this thing chased her. In her attempt to escape, she got hit by a magic mobile—rendering her unconscious.
When she woke up, she was in the hospital with no sign of the beast. Only Mr and Mrs Callaman who told her there was no creature chasing after her. That rattled her, but accepted it. Only for it to reappear a few weeks later, a couple days after Mr and Mrs Callaman took her in. This time, it appeared in her bedroom in the middle of the night. She'd tried to run, but found herself cornered. That thing would've killed her if her molecular combustion magic hadn't kicked in then—obliterating the walls and bringing down the house.
Luckily, Mr and Mrs Callaman were out of the house then—having gone to some fancy party, so they weren't injured. Y/N, though, found herself in the hospital again and was being yelled at by her new guardians for destroying their home. They didn't believe her when she told them the creature had appeared again.
"It was just your imagination," Mr Callaman had screamed at her.
"This is unacceptable behavior—I am very disappointed in you," Mrs Callaman had told her.
The rage she had felt at that moment...there were no words good enough to describe it. And when she screamed at them, they exploded. Literally. Their blood and entrails splattered everywhere; on the walls; on the floor; on the ceiling; on her.
Her horrific cry had caught the attention of the nurses and when they came in and saw the mess, they screamed too. Still battered, she fled the hospital in tears. She still heard them though, Mr and Mrs Callaman's voices never left her alone—nor did theirs. They doubted her—judged her again and again.
However, Y/N had changed. She was no longer afraid of this beast; of herself; or the powers she wielded.
So she reached inside herself, grasping her destructive power and when they monster launched—mouth wide open and ready to devour—she struck. The creature erupted, it's blue blood spraying everywhere. Not caring for her now wet shirt, she looked to the corpse. The woman's face was stuck in one of fear and Y/N pitied the woman.
If only I had realized sooner...
"Rest easy and may the Heavens welcome you" was all she muttered before she left, resuming her lullaby as she walked away. Completely forgetting about her stalker.
