Liam^^

Thursday went by quickly, heading to my two classes and chilling (I should be studying). Hung out with Liam and Ethan. Called Brie to see how she's doing.

Thursday night, my parents called to check up on how I was adapting back into the university life. We video called.

"Theodore! How are you doing? How's Liam and Ethan? Brianna too, say hi to them for me please!" My mother beams as I enter the call.

"Of course mom. I'm doing pretty well, Liam and Ethan live with me in the dorm. Ethan's out at class right now, but I think Liam's here. Would you like to say hi?" I smile at them. I haven't really seen my parents in a while.

"Oh no, wouldn't want to distract poor Liam from his studies. However, do say hello. He's a sweet boy." My father replies.

"Ah! How are you and Stephanie doing? Still going strong I hope? How is she faring in college? Do you guys talk often?" My mother bursts out another round of questions.

"Um.. yeah.. still going strong. We don't see each other much, with us being in different schools and all. I'm sure she's doing well though." I chuckle nervously. Truth is, I haven't talked to Stephanie since the summer. I have no idea how she's doing.

"Of course! Such a strong girl. She should be doing well. You should definitely visit her! She seems like the one, you know? Everything you're looking for in a girl. Don't let her go Theodore." My mother states. I smile awkwardly.

"Don't worry, I'll check up on her as soon as this call is done." I promise.

"Also... do you plan on popping the big question to her anytime soon, son? It's been about 4 years now." My dad asks. I start sweating.

"Question? You mean... marriage? Ah haha, you're funny dad. I'm still in university. Got a long way to go." I manage to dodge the question.

"Theodore. You should really be planning your future outside your education. Of course, it's amazing that you're so dedicated to your studies. Fabulous, your mother and I are very proud of you," My dad starts lecturing as my mother nods in agreement, "but you should really start thinking about investing for a house, an engagement ring, maybe even set aside money to support your kids..."

"Whoa whoa whoa. Kids?? I'm not that far yet dad. I'm still very stuck on my education, thanks." I frown. They really want me to settle down fast! This is ridiculous. I'm twenty one. I have plenty of time! (Not to mention I'm not even attracted to Stephanie!)

My dad lets out a sigh, "we really just want the best for your future, Theo. It's best to know what kind of life you'd want to have, not only looking forward a few months when you're still in education."

"I know dad. I'm not mad or upset. I really appreciate you caring, I do... but right now I just want to focus on graduating university." I sigh tiredly, resting my head on my palm.

"Okay, we get it. Want to be all successful when you grow up. Make us proud, okay?" My mom smiles sincerely. I really love my parents. They really care for my future, and really want me to be happy. It's not fair for me to be lying to them like this, is it?

"I will mom. Love you guys." I smile back, waving.

"Love you dear! Bye bye for now!" My mom says happily while my dad smiles, waving to me as well. I end the call and flop back onto my mattress.

True to my word, I send Stephanie a quick text to see how she's doing.

Me: Hey. How are you?

Steph: Pretty good. College is kinda hectic. I like it here though. Wbu?

Me: The usual. Ethan and Liam are switching between being the best things ever and complete migraines in my life.

Steph: Haha. Wouldn't expect anything less, especially from Ethan.

Steph: So tell me, why the sudden text?

I gulp nervously. Damn, she's pretty perceptive.

Me: Uh, parents, sorry. I do really value you as a friend though, so that played a part too.

Steph: Alright, acceptable answer I suppose. How are your parents holding up about our thing?

Me: The usual. They want to see you sometime, and are slightly worried that we haven't contacted in a while.

Steph: No offense Theo, but why don't you just break it off? It's less hassle and the fact that we've been "dating" for about 4 years now should get your parents off your back about being straight or whatever.

Me: I guess. I'm really sorry. I don't really have the guts to let them know or tell them we've broken up. They really think you're the one I'm gonna marry and they'll be super pissed for "letting a girl like you go"

Steph: I mean, you can always just say the spark died. Especially since we've been a "long distance relationship" for 3 years now. It's reasonable. Why would they be mad?

Me: Yeah, that's an idea. Except they're not really on my back about "being straight". It's more about settling down, getting married, starting a family, you know...

Steph: Gross. They really expect us to make a family? No offense but the thought of doing it with you makes me gag.

Me: Lol no hard feelings. Me too tbh. I think I'll probably keep this "relationship" until around end of 4th year or when I find someone. Is that alright with you? It's just so my parents are sated and aren't constantly stressed for me.

Steph: Ok. What if I find a boyfriend?

Me: Uh... I guess we'll break it off then. I know this situation really isn't ideal for you, and I'm really sorry.

Steph: It's ok. You're my friend. (you owe me)

Me: haha, okay okay I owe you. I should go, but it was fun catching up.

Steph: Yep. Bye!

Me: Bye

I put my phone away on the bed. Stephanie really is a nice girl, and she's an amazing friend for being my fake girlfriend. I feel kinda guilty for roping her into the situation.
