Part two of that last cliff hanger!

This is going to be weird and strange, so... Here goes!

Alex's POV

I look up at John, whose lips are curled into a smile. "And what are you going to do about it?" I ask.

He raises his eyebrows. "Why, of course, you are going to lock him in a closet for a few days until he confesses his guilt in front of the entire school!" he explains.
(Why not?)

I am taken aback. "Me?" I clarify.

He rolls his eyes. "Yes, you. Unless you admit it was your fault all along, in which case, be my guest."

I struggle for words. "Okay, then. How exactly is this going to work?"

John shakes his head. "No clue. That's your call."

After school, I catch up to John as he's about to board the bus. "Hey. About that plan," I start. "Well, I'm really out of ideas. It's just so hard with so many people around."

He raises an eyebrow. "What do you want me to do about it?" he asks. This is extremely frustrating, and he smiles, knowing he's won.

I pull myself together enough to say, "Do you have any ideas?"

John looks at me like an annoying bug. "Not particularly. That's your problem. But I might be able to help."

I grin. "Thanks! So, when -"

He sees a bus leave and sprints after it, calling, "789-435-6120!" before disappearing into the yellow interior of the vehicle. It is then that I realize what he said was a phone number. I just hope it's not a prank.

When I return home, I grab my phone and type in the number. I bring it to my ear and tentatively ask, "Hello? Is this a prank?"

On the other end of the call, I hear blank silence, until - "Congratulations, Alexander! Now I have your phone number," John says. Now I'm not sure if I wish it to not have been John's number after all.

"Well, nice trick. Anyway, I've been thinking about how we can humiliate Thomas Jefferson."

Silence.

He went on. "If we could corner him - "

"We?" he asks. I curse to myself. Did we always have to be at odds with each other?

"Yes, we, unless you don't want Jefferson to be brought to justice?" I say.

"Fair enough," John relents.

"Good. So, as I was saying, we could cause a distraction and lead him away from his friends, then kidnap him - sound cool?"

John seems to be thinking. "Sounds... plausible, I must admit. Let's see how this plays out."

Jefferson's POV
(Why not?)

I close my car door and head to the group of students clustered around the doors. When I find a bench to sit on, I lean down against it and cross my legs casually. Taking out my phone, I scroll through my messages. I have a few from my friend James, a few from Aaron, and one from... Angelica? I stare at the screen uncomprehendingly. She's never texted me before, despite the number of times I've asked her to.

My finger hovers over the message for a few seconds. We've never been friends, really, but she's always kind of there. I don't know what to think about here. I mean, she's definitely pretty, but she has never dated anyone before and there's no specific reason she would be willing to date me of all people.
