R / Thoughts on Nova's Bracelet

I have been thinking about the copper-colored band that Nova wears around her wrist and I have a few thoughts/questions. Here they are:

1) During her first meeting with Adrian, Marissa Meyer states that Nova's right hand has a tan line around where she has worn the bracelet for ten years. I wonder, then, where this tan came from. Apparently, Nova has been living in the subway tunnels for almost ten years, where there is no sun. If I am not mistaken, you can't tan without sun. Therefore, I am confused. I understand that Meyer wants to show readers that Nova has a strong connection with the bracelet, but I don't believe a tan line is extremely accurate for the situation.

2) What about the gem? David Artino's power can only craft a copper-colored metal, and nothing else. Granted, the metal is extremely durable and useful, but it only has one appearance. Now I wonder what gem he would have set in the bracelet. This inconsistency can be easily solved if, say, a family friend gave them a gem, but how would that "put right some of the problems I've caused in the world?"

3) When Nova asks her dad what he's making (the bracelet), he tells her that it's something he hopes will solve some of the trouble he's caused. I have a problem with that. Mainly: How can a bracelet solve the problems of the world? I'm sorry, but no. I suppose I can digress that once the gem (whatever that is) and the bracelet, once united, could make a super-powerful good-machine. But I doubt it.

4) How could the clasp break? If the bracelet were really David Artino's work, then the metal would be much less susceptible to damage than a regular bracelet, and not be harmed by a simple pick-pocket encounter. Again, I get that Meyer wants to have a good meeting between the two, but... Still.

And that's the end. Any requests I'll be happy to oblige!
