I was making a soup for my mother who was standing next to me when we heard a loud shattering noise coming from upstairs.

What the hell is he doing up there!?

Mom: What was that?

Hazel: Huh, was what?

I turned the stove off and raised my eyebrows as if I didn't know what she was talking about.

Mom: I heard a loud shattering noise coming from upstairs, didn't you hear?

Yes I heard perfectly.

Hazel: No I didn't hear anything. It's probably just you.

Mom: Yeah its probably just me. So, What took you so long to get down here?

Hazel: I cleaned up my room. Sorry for taking long

Mom: It's Fine. Anyway Thank you for helping me make this soup, my heads still spinning.

No shit because you got wasted last night.

She sat down and I served the plates and drinks before joining her in the table.

Hazel: Mom, Can we talk?

Mom: Is it about you?

Hazel: No, it's about you. This is really getting out of hand and-

Mom: HAZEL.

I pressed my lips shut. She sighed and took a sip of water.

Mom: look honey, I already told you that this is my life. There's nothing else that I should care about or is there? No right, so let me have fun.

Hazel: Uh yes there is. You have me, I'm still living here with you. Have you forgotten that you have a daughter? Am I 'nothing' to you!?

Mom: Yes you are my daughter but that doesn't mean you can stop me from doing what I want. I'm an adult.

Hazel: And I'm not? Mom do you even know how old I am? All you care about is you and your stupid nights. You didn't even tell me Happy Birthday this year, or at least gave a hug. That's all I could even expect from you because I knew you were too busy getting ready to go out like every damn night. It's like I'm invisible to you.

Mom: After your dad and I separated everything changed. It had to okay? What did you expect for me to be, a sweet and caring mother to you? That's not happening. I'm not the same mother you had years ago.

Hazel: It had to? No it didn't mother. I might not have understood the problems you and dad had but if you were going to become a selfish and non caring mother you shouldn't have fought for my custody.

Mom: Hazel just shut up! I don't need to hear your damn excuses and complains. I can do whatever I want and as long as you're living under my god damn roof you ain't gonna tell me shit of what I can do and not do!

Hazel: We always have to end like this.

Mom: Thanks to you, with your "Can we talk" bull crap.

Hazel: Well damn sorry for actually giving a shit about you! You're the only person I have left and how am I not supposed to worry when you are clubbing, drinking so late at night and bringing drunk men home with you? What if they take advantage of you or have a disease!?

Mom: Okay Okay...You're right but Hazel you have to understand that this is the only way I can heal from everything that happened. It's my body and doing, don't worry about it. Worry about yourself.

Hazel: No you are the one who needs to understand what you're doing is wrong. This is useless, I don't even know why I'm trying to talk with you about this.
