The Next Day
I managed to get a last minute session in with Dr. Richards. Seems like ever since I got out of rehab everything that could go wrong is going wrong. I didn't want to be the person that did something stupid next so I decided to come here.
The office door opened and Dr. Richards stepped inside. "Hello Chris."
"Hey, thanks for seeing me on such short notice."
"No problem." He said while taking his seat. "How are you holding up?"
"As of lately I'm treading on thin ice."
"Really? Why is that?"
"A lot has happened."
"What happened?"
I exhaled. "Well the day I got out of here, my father in law passed away. I knew about him being sick but I never told Carlee because her father asked me not to. That caused an issue but not something crazy. She left and went to vent to the guy she was previously dating. Carlee is a recovering alcoholic and the guy she was dating knew that but still tried to force her to drink. I ran to her rescue and that night we decided to work on us. Fast forward six months later which is now. Carlee is pregnant, we were excited and nervous because she is almost 50. And on top of that my son was charged with assaulting a cop and resisting arrest. My head is spinning from all the stuff that's going on."
"You said that you were happy about Carlee being pregnant. Does that mean you're not excited anymore?"
Exhaling, I sunk down in my seat. "Yesterday we ran into her ex, I'm walking up to her to make sure that shes okay while they're talking only to overhear that they had Sex 6 months ago."
"So there's a possibility that the baby could be his?"
I nodded while swallowing the lump in my throat. "Yeah."
"And how does that make you feel?"
"When I heard him say that, my heart dropped. Like I explained to her, I'm not hurt because she slept with him. I'm upset because of the danger she put me in and I'm hurt because she could be carrying another mans baby. I thought I would be the only one to create a blessing with her. It breaks my heart. And to make things worse she's trying to make this my fault."
"Why would this be your fault?"
"My cheating caused her to move on to somebody else and that's why we're in this situation. She's right though."
"She isn't right Chris. Yes you messed up but you didn't force her to sleep with someone unprotected. Carlee is very much old enough to know better."
"She keeps using her age as an excuse. She says that she thought because of how old she was that she wouldn't get pregnant but what about the other things that could happen from unprotected sex?! She didn't think about that."
"Chris I know you love Carlee very much but something that I've grown to realize about her is, she's very good at finding excuses to cover her faults but won't allow you to do the same and she sometimes can be very selfish. How many times have you two argued without you having to take the blame for whatever happened?"
