The car is dead silent on the ride to the hospital. Joanna is staring out the window which I know is a sign for everyone not to talk. Her face has no emotion but her body is shaking with nerves.

"Alright, we're here."

"Are you ready?" I ask her.

"As I'll ever be."

We walk into the hospital with a gust of sanitizes air blown into our faces. Sooner or later we find our selves in a hospital room waiting for the doctor. The doctor walks in with a white coat on.

"Hello Joanna, how are you?"

"Fine, I guess." She stares awkwardly at the ground.

"Well, your test results are..." He trails off flipping through the pages on his clipboard.

"Just tell me."

"Alright, you need a procedure to remove the tumor, it is critical, but the only side effect is that you won't be able to use your eyes for the rest of your life."

Silence was the only thing that followed. Joanna is one of the toughest people I have seen, except the time she called me when she learned about this whole issue, and I expected the same reaction, but only a single tear rolled down her now hollow face.
