Bring, bring...
With each ring that passed, I feared Zander's voicemail would kick in.
Finally the ring's and the anxious silence was interrupted by a background noise of what sounded like maybe people, or possibly a TV and then a shuffling sound.
"Hullo?"
My heart damn near exploded inside my chest.
It wasn't supposed to be emotional yet, but several hot tear's pricked at the back's of my eyes.
"Hey Babe."
I tried to keep the emotion's out of my voice, because I knew Zander wouldn't know it was Me by the number He'd answered, but I wasn't sure if I succeeded.
The shuffling noise came back again, louder this time.
"Bailey?"
Zander asked, his surprise more than audible.
There was no reason for Him not to be surprised.
I'd managed to talk to him literally less than a dozen times during the last month.
"Hi."
I laughed, completely unsure why.
Zander let out a whooshing sound of something that sounded like relief.
"Are you okay? Where are you now?"
He asked.
I shot Amara a glance, a smile pulling at my lips.
"Well... you're not gonna believe it."
I informed Him.
"What?"
He prompted.
"I'm sitting in the Pier Diner."
I admitted.
"You're what?!"
I heard something that sounded like a thud on Zander's end.
I couldn't help but giggle.
"Your Mum brought you back?"
Zander asked.
I shook my head, then remembered He couldn't see that.
"I got on a Bus in Sydney yesterday."
I explained.
"I got to Reef Bay tonight, but as you know, I don't have my phone. I walked to the Diner in hopes I'd find somebody I knew so I could get phone call's started."
"Don't move a muscle!"
I heard the distinct sound of movement on Zander's end.
"I'm coming now."
"Zan wait!"
As much as I wanted to see Him, I still had to help Amara execute her next moment.
"I found Amara at the Diner."
I informed Him.
"It's her phone I'm using."
Silence reached my ear.
"I just have to help her do something. And then I'll see if She can drop Me to your place."
"Amara's in Town?"
The confusion was more than audible in Zander's voice.
"Yes."
I shot my Best Friend a glance.
"Then why has Heath looked the worst I've seen Him in year's?"
Zander sounded bewildered.
"I'll explain later."
I all but whispered.
"For now... I love You and I can't wait to see You... but I need a favour."
I smiled sheepishly, even though I knew He couldn't see Me.
"What do you need?"
That's my Boyfriend.
"Can you please text Kade's phone number to this phone?"
I requested.
Amara frowned.
"What do you want Kade's number for?"
Zander sounded confused.
"To help Amara."
I explained.
"Can't She just call Heath?"
Zander asked.
I rolled my eyes, trying not to get frustrated.
"I'll explain it all later! Can you just text the number, please?"
"Alright."
He agreed.
"But when and where do you want Me to pick you up?"
"We'll work that out once I sort this out."
I explained.
Zander sighed, his frustration obvious.
Trust Me Zan, this wasn't how I pictured my return either.
"It's sent."
He stated.
Amara's phone buzzed.
I pulled the device away from my ear to check the screen.
"Thank you."
I told Zander, placing the phone back against my ear.
"Hopefully this all goes smoothly and I can call you really soon."
"Finnnnnne."
Zander didn't exactly sound happy.
"I'll talk to you soon."
I murmured, shooting Amara a sideways glance.
"Alright."
Zander agreed.
"I love You."
I reminded Him.
"I love you too."
He replied.
"Bye."
I bade.
"Bye."
He answered.
Before I could pull the phone back and end the call, it ended in front of my eyes.
A twinge of guilt stabbed my heart.
Help Amara, then you can go to Zander.
The little voice in the back of my mind urged.
I turned to Amara.
"Can I call Kade?"
She looked at Me in bewilderment.
"Why do you want to call Kade?"
"To find out where Heath is."
I explained.
Amara's mouth formed a nearly perfect 'o'.
Being She hadn't said 'no', I opened Zander's text and tapped on Kade's contact which He'd sent through.
The phone screen morphed to show Amara's phone making the call.
Biting into my bottom lip, I lifted Amara's phone back to my ear.
Hopefully Kade doesn't have Amara's number saved, because if He was with Heath, it would ruin it if He told Heath Amara was calling.
The blast of noise of what sounded like most probably a party filled my ear and I cringed.
"Hello?"
A voice I recognised greeted.
"Kade?"
I asked, seeing if He could even hear Me.
"Who's this?"
Zander's Brother asked.
"It's Bailey."
I told him and cringed again at the sudden burst of cheering people in the background.
I could barely hear Kade's reply, but it sounded something like hang on a sec.
Finally the noise in the background significantly quietened.
"Who's this?"
Kade's voice asked again.
"It's Bailey."
I repeated.
"Bailey, Bailey?!"
My Boyfriend's Brother/My Brother's Best Friend sounded shocked.
"Bailey Evans Bailey?"
He checked.
I couldn't help but laugh!
"Yeah, that one!"
I agreed.
"Holy shit man! Where are you? Are you okay? Why aren't you calling your Brother's? How the hell do you know my number? I thought you don't have a- I know you don't have a phone 'coz it's at my house!"
I had to pull the phone away from my ear while Kade went on a stunned rant.
Grimacing, I shot a glance toward's Amara who was actually giggling.
"Bailey? Bailey?!"
Wearily, I carefully held the phone against my ear again.
"I'm here."
I informed Kade.
"I'm safe and sound."
I assured Him.
"But I need to ask You a question."
"Me?!"
The startled yelp was amusing in the twenty-two year old's voice.
"Why Me?!"
I couldn't help but laugh!
"Simmer down, Kade. It's a pretty easy one."
I teased.
Silence reached my ear.
Damn it!
"Kade are you there?"
I checked.
"Yeah I'm here. What... what do you need to know?"
"Is Heath with you?"
I asked.
That would most likely answer the question about if my Brother was partying.
"He was, but He went home. Maybe an hour ago? Do you want Me to go home so you can talk to him? I'm a bit drunk, but we can probably find someone who can drive us to get you."
Kade blabbered.
Heath went home?
I snapped my gaze to Amara who was watching Me with apprehension.
"That's okay."
I told Kade.
"I'm perfectly safe."
"Are you sure? We can come get you. Or I can send you Zander's number? He's not even had one drink since you left! I think He's been waiting in case He has to jump in the car and get you. I'll send you his number and you should call him."
Kade rambled.
I rolled my eyes.
Little did He know, I've spoken to Zander.
"Okay thanks."
I told him to appease him.
"If you can send Me his number would be good. But right now I have to go."
If Heath went home, it was the perfect place for Amara to talk to him!
"Okay I'll send it now."
Kade replied.
"Okay. Thanks. Bye!"
I bade.
"Bye."
Zander's Brother answered.
I pulled the phone from my ear and ended the call.
"We're gonna have to move fast."
I informed Amara, sliding my way out of the booth seat.
"In case Kade call's Heath."
"What exactly are we doing?"
She asked, scrambling out of the seat after Me.
"You're gonna talk to Heath."
I explained, hauling my backpack up off the floor.
Something Kade said repeated in my mind and I couldn't help but smile.
"And I'm hopefully gonna get my phone!"
Amara looked at Me in confusion.
"You are? How?"
"Kade said my phone is at their house."
Amara's eyes widened.
"C'mon."
I turned on my heel to leave the Diner.
